[21:49] If you've got time to spare, I was wondering if you'd answer a few questions I've got concerning the "FF translation wars". [21:49] which "FF translation wars" would that be [21:50] The FF3j primarily. [21:50] I never really followed the FF3j "war" that closely [21:51] Ok, well, would you be willing to talk about SoM2 than? [21:51] all I knew was that awj's project had som2's blessing and that he seemed talented enough that I knew I was working on the right one [21:51] Most people I've interviewed so far have given him somewhat of a bad rap. [21:51] som2 as in som2freak? [21:51] yaya. [21:51] sure [21:52] Just in general, what was your impression of him? [21:53] I can't say I really know him that well [21:53] but he seems like someone very, very, very devoted to japanese culture [21:53] practically to the point of zealotry [21:53] Did you find him easy to work with? [21:54] working with him on SD3 wasn't always easy, he seemed to have a vision of what the translated game was going to be already before he even started on the script [21:54] heh [21:55] I knew you were going to ask that already ;) [21:55] Well, others I've talked with said basicly what you just did. That he had this preordained vision that he wasn't willing to compromise much on. [21:55] exactly [21:55] and that's both a good and a bad thing [21:56] a lot of the character "personality" that ended up in the final script was based on som2's "vision" [21:56] he added lots of inflections and dialect that lina, nuku and I sort of ran with [21:57] Of what you remember of FF3, how much was Demi involved? I'm pretty much aware of his very active role in FF2, but I'm not too clear what if anything he had to do with FF3. [21:58] I'm not sure if Demi contributed or not [21:58] but if he did, it certainly wasn't an active role [21:59] the FF3j project that I worked on was very much awj's project [21:59] and som2's [21:59] hmm [22:01] I interviewed Nightcrawler of the Translation Corporation yesterday and one thing he mentioned was Demi insulting him and his work. Which confused me to no end since I didn't think Demi had that much to do with the FF3 project. And since he hasn't answered my email and I have yet to hunt him down on IRC, I'm quite suprised that he didn't have that active a role in FF3. [22:02] Well, thanks for the info. [22:02] he may have, before I got involved, I dunno [22:02] try asking awj about it [22:02] I did. His memory of that period is rather spotty. ;) [22:03] heh
