The ICQ Emulator Netplay Active List
airety
Finally. It has been many months, but the Emulator Netplay List has been made. With the recent update to SNES9x, we now have the ability to play Multiplayer games of both Contra and Mario Kart. Through this ability and the members of the list, I hope to start tournaments and generally, hope that everyone on the list is able to play any game, at any time, with someone else on the list.
I initially wanted this to happen on IRC, but that doesn't seem to be the best avenue as a lot of people don't use IRC that often, or use different servers. I couldn't possibly create a Netplay channel on every server out there, and had at least a few people to run it. So the ICQ Activelist seems to be the best way to do it.
Now, with the establishment of this list, people can solicit for a game of any multiplayer game on two different consoles imaginable, and most likely get someone willing to take their offer. Heck, if I'm around I want to be playing a game with someone.
There is a few problems. Lag might deter some people. Well, I've experimented with a 56.6k -> 56.6k using Nesticle, and it was a bit laggy. \Anything major? No. Did it kill the experience? Not even close! Another one is ROM compatibility. It seems that different dumps of the same game sometimes do not load with each other properly. Here's another good thing about ICQ, just send the game over. Eventually, I would like to partner with a ROM site to make it the official site for Emulator Netplay, but for now this will work (If you run a ROM site that is on a reliable connection, and have a huge amount of NES/SNES 2 or more player games, please E-mail me with your link, and I will check it out, perhaps we can work something out.)
Will this become popular? I think it can. Within two weeks I would like to conduct our first tournament. It will be single elimination, 64 players. The game is to be decided at a later date. When the tournament details have been decided on, there will be a post about it on the SGC main page I will also broadcast it throughout the Activelist. Prizes may not be around for the first few games, but eventually there may be giveaways. I, or another person, will always try to recap the tournament and create a page letting the people know who is the master of the game, and a postgame interview with that person.
I encourage everyone interested to Download the latest version of ICQ. Once that is done, go the services bar. Click on ICQ Activelists. Then click Find/Add a List. The list ID number is: 82508654. If you are having trouble, ICQ me. My UIN is 14665009.
