DGen
  • Version: 1.23
  • Homepage: none
  • Port Specific Site: http://pknet.com/~joe/dgen-sdl.html
  • Authors: | Dave | Joe Groff
  • Released: 2000-10-29
  • Ports Available: | MacOS | MS-DOS | Windows
  • Port Specific Info: This is the Simple DirectMedia Layer port of DGen. I can vouch for the fact that the Windows version is quite good, and I assume that the SDL port is also good..but who am I to judge? Anybody used it and can give me an idea of just how good it is? Let me know.

  • Info: GenEm is outdated and really slow. It has been discontinued for quite some time, and thus will not get any better.

  • Port Specific Info: Two different binary versions (gtk/SDL and SVGALib) are available from the Generator homepage.

MESS
  • Version: 0.37b13.2
  • Homepage: http://mess.emuverse.com/
  • Authors: | Ben Bruscella | Lawrence Gold | Many Others
  • Released: 2001-04-09
  • Ports Available: | Acorn | MacOS | MS-DOS | Windows
  • Info: MESS is a beast of a project. It emulates, according to the MESS homepage, a huge list of systems. I got bored of counting them after about 130, but I think there are over 200 systems listed. Note, of course, that many of these are closely related. For example, Colecovision and Colecovision (Thick Characters) are listed separately. As far as TI calculators are concerned, it emulates the TI-85 (and lists 7 versions of it). It's an impressive project, but for virtually all of the systems it emulates your time would be better spent with one of the emulators that focuses specifically on the system that you are interested in.
