DGen
- Download: 1.04a
- Homepage: none
- Authors: | Dave
- Released: 1999-05-21
- Ports Available: | MacOS | Unix/Linux | Windows
- Port Specific Info: DGen is a good emulator, but the DOS port is not actually maintained. This version doesn't even have sound. You may want to check out the Windows port however.
Genecyst
- Download: x.xx
- Homepage: http://bloodlust.zophar.net/
- Authors: | Bloodlust Software
- Released: 1998-08-19
- Info: Genecyst is one of the better Genesis emulators. From the author of Nesticle and Callus, Genecyst is yet another fine piece of work. Although the emulator has been discontinued for some time, it is still a competitor.
GenEm
- Download: 0.19
- Homepage: none
- Authors: | Markus Gietzen
- Released: 1997-05-18
- Ports Available: | Acorn | MacOS | Unix/Linux
- Info: GenEm is outdated and really slow. It has been discontinued for quite some time, and thus will not get any better.
Generator
Genital
- Download: 0.3
- Homepage: none
- Authors: | Bart Trzynadlowski
- Released: 2000-05-27
- Info: A Genesis emulator sporting a name that you would have expected Bloodlust to come up with. Still early in development, the emulator isn't very impressive as of yet, but has high hopes.
Gens
- Download: 0.15b
- Homepage: http://gens.consolemul.com/
- Authors: | Stephane Dallongeville
- Released: 2000-01-14
- Ports Available: | Windows
- Port Specific Info: This is a relatively weak Genesis emulator. According to the author, it plays an estimated 60% of games, but has quite a few bugs. There is currently no sound support. The DOS version seems to have been dropped in favor of the Windows version.
KGEN
KGEN '98
- Download: 0.4b
- Homepage: http://www.emuclassics.com/kml-empire/
- Authors: | Steve Snake
- Released: 1998-06-08
- Port Specific Info: KGen 98 is an excellent emulator. With this latest release about 90% of the code was rewritten, and the target of the project "changed from speed to accuracy." If you're looking for a faster emulator, try to old version..if you're looking for more accuracy, try KGen 98.
MESS
- Version: 0.37b13
- Homepage: http://mess.emuverse.com/
- Authors: | Ben Bruscella | Many Others
- Released: 2001-04-08
- Ports Available: | Acorn | MacOS | Unix/Linux | Windows
- Info: MESS is a beast of a project. It emulates, according to the MESS homepage, a huge list of systems. I got bored of counting them after about 130, but I think there are over 200 systems listed. Note, of course, that many of these are closely related. For example, Colecovision and Colecovision (Thick Characters) are listed separately. As far as TI calculators are concerned, it emulates the TI-85 (and lists 7 versions of it). It's an impressive project, but for virtually all of the systems it emulates your time would be better spent with one of the emulators that focuses specifically on the system that you are interested in.
st0rm SGE
Virtual Genesis
- Download: 0.21a
- Homepage: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JASONMEEHAN/VGEN.HTM
- Authors: | Jason Meehan
- Released: 2001-06-02
- Info: VGEN is a Sega Genesis emulator, and the only one to have preliminary Sega CD support. Preliminary means just that..preliminary..it only shows the boot-up screen.. Also, as of June 2001, the emulator has been official discontinued, meaning nothing more will come of it. More information about this can be found on the aforementioned homepage.
