A26
|
DOS - |
v0.15b source |
This is an old emulator. It was last updated in '96, and has pretty much returned to the dust. The source is available, which is a plus, while emulation is buggy at best. Of course, this is a beta release, so you can't expect the emulator to work to perfection, but at it's age, z26, based on a26 has easily taken out ahead. |
PC Atari
|
DOS - |
v2.1a source |
PC Atari has all the things you want in an Atari 2600 emulator. Good compatability, sound, speed, ease of use. PC Atari is one to use for DOS. |
Stella
|
Linux DEC Alpha DOS OS/2 Win9x - |
v1.0 (Linux) v0.7a (DECalpha) v1.0 (DOS) v0.7 (OS/2) v0.7a (Win9x) source |
This is certainly an above average emulator. The best thing Stella has to offer are it's ports. Stella has certainly been ported to more operating systems than any other Atari 2600 emulator, and thus is probably the best overall emulator. The DOS port is beaten out by PC Atari. |
| DOS |
v1.0 |
This is your average Atari 2600 emulator. Average features, average support, average sound. It's certainly decent, but doesn't really have anything to put it in front of the pack.
| DOS Linux AmigaOS |
v0.81 (DOS) v0.81 (Linux) v? (AmigaOS) Linux source |
Virtual 2600 is a decent Atari 2600 emulator. It is weak in many areas, yet gets a plus for portability. There are better choices right now for emulators, but this is one to keep an eye on.
Z26
|
DOS - |
v1.18 source |
This emulator is based on A26 by Paul Robson. It has full sound support, and far better compatability than A26. This is an above average emulator. |
