Version 0.35 of the Rockman/Forte translation patch has been released by AAGT. You can find the latest version on the English Translations page.
Zophar's Domain - New URL - jandar
Zophar's Domain, a large general emulation site, is once again using the domain name zophar.net. The old URL will no longer work, be sure to update your bookmarks.
New Snes9x Released - jandar
Well, things were busy yesterday, and happenings were few in the emulation world, but here we are with another round of updates.
This release is only for Linux and Solaris. Those with other OS's will have to wait for another release. Version 1.1 has a ton of great new features. Some of the largest are Netplay, allowing up to 5 people to play, and Mario Kart and Winter Gold are playable. Find them on the SNES Emulators page. Keep your eyes open for other ports in the near future.

Sega Master System/Game Gear emulators added! - airety They can be found here for now, afterwards it will be accessible through the left menu. Sooner or later we'll get everything up. For now, we have two emulators, one for DOS, and one for Linux. Sooner(or later){purposely redundant} I'll add the rest, because the emulators up now are the best. I said so, so they have to be the best! :) What to expect for tommorrow? On my part, at least NEO*GEO, perhaps an Atari or two also. Jandar's planning some stuff also, so this site should be a *busy* place from now on. Also, if you catch something we miss, send us an e-mail. Airety(me) or Jandar will do. The news will be added as soon as possible if relevant. And visit the Apocolyptic Chamber (our webboard) now. Let's get some debates, discussions, polls and questions moving in and out of there! I will frequent it often, and Jandar most likely will too. Amiga Emulators Added! - jandar
Once again I come to you with a major addition to the site. I have added Amiga emulators to this site, a system that I fell in love with many years ago. Be sure to check out the Amiga emulators.
New Wwwboard Added - jandar
For anybody who hasn't noticed, Airety has provided the site with a better message board than the one we had before. So far it has had absolutely no activity, and perhaps it is because nobody knows it exists. Be sure to pay a visit to the Web Board. Like, do it now. Post a message, ask an emulation question, but lets at least make use of it...
Gryzor Translation Added - jandar
This is a retranslation of the NES game Contra without the changes that were made in the American version originaly. The translation was done by The MadHacker. You can get the patch from the English Translations page.

RockNES Homepage Moves - jandar
I'm back again after being out of town for the weekend to tell you that the RockNES homepage has moved to a new address. RockNES is an NES emulator.
TG-16 Added! - airety
Five minutes after I added the TG-16 section, a new version of HU6280 was released. More editing! Well, here is a list of new features.
- added crc rom detection to hu6280. (now the emu knows which rom u r running ;)
- fixed the following games to actually run:
- Fixed 'Sonic Spike Volleyball (usa/jap)'
- Fixed 'Final Match Tennis (usa/jap)'
- Fixed 'GAIA (jap)'
- Fixed 'City Hunter (usa/jap)'
- Fixed 'Toyshop Boys (jap)'
- Fixed 'Homedata Chess Game (jap)'
- Fixed 'FinalSoldier (jap)'
- added hu6280 logo to front of emu ;)
- removed logging stuff ('[@#$%].log') that somehow made it into the last version... :) I added a whole new section today, the TG-16 section, mainly because I understand everyone's urge to play Bonk! :D For now there are only two major emulators in the section, both running in DOS, but of course they're the two best ones. I also updated my info, if anyone cares. Now HU6280 gives you more reasons to use it. . . Download it right away!

Zsnes Version 0.635 Released! - jandar
Yet another releases of Zsnes, the emulator of choice for DOS. You can find this version on the SNES Emulators page. Read what's new in this text file.
New Member Emulator added. - airety
You may know me, you may not. But I will now help Jandar with the maintaining of this page. Right now you won't see me make any significant updates, but once I get into the flow of things this page will be a great page to keep updated on translations and emulation. Now a two man team, Apocalypse emulation will serve you better! :) My name: oh yeah, my handle is airety. I'll setup many details about myself tomorrow.
New Game Boy Emulators Debuts - jandar
You can get the first release of SMYGB, for DOS, from the Game Boy Emulators page. It is pretty slow, but is still a nice emulator.
RockNES Version 0.55 Released - jandar
This was released yesterday, but I missed it while working on the Colecovision section, but here it is now. You can find this emulator on the NES Emulators page. Here's what's new:
- Fixed Mapper #1, now more games works fine (like Metroid, Mega Man 2, CastleVania 2 etc)
- Fixed Mapper #4, now more games works (Mega Man 6, Sword Master)
- Implemented a new way of swapping ROM banks. This doesn't speed up the emulator or make it run any more games, however, it does make it a lot easier to work with and understand
- Added Mappers #10 and #23 (no games seems to run for now)
- Added autoframeskip system
- Added the old frame rate system
- Compatibility increased
- Minor changes across mappers/6502 functions
- Fixed a bug in the graphic engine (current PPU name table)
- Fixed a bug in the 6502 from Marat (now, with correct timing, the emulator has the correct speed)
- Fixed a bug in the sprite code that can fix some games
- Fixed the NES ROM header read function (partially for extended mappers)
- Fixed stupid bugs in the startup messages
- Removed video mode options by command line (just use rocknes.cfg)
- Config file generator adapted with the new changes
- Fixed screenshot save function (I forgot to say, sorry! Press )
Colecovision Added to Site - jandar
I have begun to add a section for Colecovision to the site. Currently there are only emulators available for this system.

New Release of Thingy
Thingy, a wonderful rom hacking utility has been updated to version 0.96. You can find this great utility on the General Utilities page. Here's what's new:
- A little addition to the script inserter to support dual tile insertion
- A few array sizes enlarged, to hopefully support games with up to 3000 double hex entries (like kanji)
9/21/98
Genesis Translations Added
I have added a couple of translations for Sega Genesis games. These include English translations for the games Rent a Hero, and Star Cruiser. You can find these on the English Translations page. You can find a French translation of Phantasy Star III on the French Translation page.
9/20/98
Apocalypse Historic Added
I have added a section dedicated to the history of emulation. As of now it only includes an old backup of Apocalypse, frozen in time, from early 1998. This page will grow in the future, and the present becomes the past, and is archived in Apocalypse Historic. Feel free to visit Apocalypse Historic at any time.
Slight Modification
You may notice the site map bar on the left of the screen has been changed slightly to reflect the future changes to come to Apocalypse Emulation. Some of the largest changes will be the addition of Interview and Articles sections, which are empty right now. If you look closely you may see the sign of another future update.
Page Fixed for Internet Explorer
My apologies to anybody who had trouble viewing this page in the past. It came to my attention that with MSIE the site map on the left appeared very odd. This should be fixed now, and not become an issue again. If you find any more such errors, use the Bug Report form to tell me about it. Thank you for your support.
9/19/98
And Another Level Editor!
SnowBro has released yet another one of his great level editors. This time it is for the great cowboy NES game GunSmoke! Be SURE that you get this great level editor off of the NES Utilities page.
Apocalypse Adds Genesis
Heeding the results of the poll, I have taken it upon myself to add a Sega Genesis section to the page. So far only the emulators are added, but utilities, translations, and more will come in the future. Check out the Genesis Emulators page.
New SNEeSe Released, and SNEeSe Discontinued
The final version of SNEeSe, an SNES emulator for DOS, has been released. You can find SNEeSe version 0.16f on the SNES Emulators page.
We've Moved!
Yep, we've moved to a new server provided by Emulnews, but of course, you know that already. On this server, the site should be able to grow to it's greatest state. Some things still need work, and I know that the counter is currently broken, but these will all fall into place in the near future. Be sure to visit Emulnews, I owe them a debt of gratitude.
9/18/98
Zsnes Version 0.625 Released

Game Boy Utilities Added
I have finally created a page for Game Boy Utilities. With the weekend drawing near you can expect quite a few updates. You can find the following utilities on the Game Boy Utilities page:
- Game Boy Tool
- HebeGB
- HebeGB9x
- Instant List
- Vitual Game Boy Tools
CoolNESs Updated to v0.70
You can find the latest version of CoolNESs, an NES emulator for the AmigaOS, on the NES Emulators page.
What a Boring Week
It's been a boring week thus far, and it's not because I havn't updated the site, it because there has been nothing to update it with. For the past few days there have been zero updates in the NES and SNES emulation world. Hopefully that will soon change.
9/14/98
SNEqr Source Released
Having no time to continue development of SNEqr, the author, Qwertie, has released the source of his emulator. If you would like to see the emulator taken to the next level, do the job yourself. You can find the source on the SNES emulators page.
9/13/98
New Version of Zsnes
I decided this release deserved it's own news message. I missed several new releases of Zsnes in the past few days, and the latest is version .605. You can find this wonderful emulator with a great new GUI on the SNES Emulators page.
All the Updates
Why waste space to show you all the updates from the past few days, I'll just tell them all right here!
You can get version 0.95b4 of madNES, version 0.0.5 of WinNES, 0.40a of NESemu, and 0.54 of RockNES from the NES Emulators page. You can also find a new version (0.17b) of MySNES for the AmigaOS on the SNES Emulators page. A new version (1.8) of NO$GMB can be found on the Game Boy Emulators page. To top it all off, an updated version of the Rockman/Forte translation patch is on the English Translations page.
You Can't Contain Me!
Wow! I couldn't take more than a few days away from the site. I actually missed it pretty bad, that's the frightening part. Anyway, I have to thank everybody who emailed me in the last few days, it was quite a pick-me-up, and perhaps we can get big things underway. Wow! I'll tell you what I did in the past couple of days...I sat down and started up a good emulator. I played through a couple of my favorite NES games, and discovered how cool Zapper support can really be (big yea for LoopyNES). I'll tell you, it just took me that long to figure out why I take the time to update this site so much, and what the site is all about. So here we are!
9/9/98
What I've Decided...
After some thought and input from some others, I have decided that what I really need is a break from all of this. The site is certainly not dead, and I will continue to update it, but first I need to get away from it for a little while. I need to get a feel for emulation again, and perhaps I am also guilty of forgetting what it should be. I need to take some time to bring up an emulator and actually play through some games, something I have not done for some time. I will take perhaps a week or two off of this site, and will then return, with luck a happier and more helpful person. The site, and file archive will stay for those weeks, and you are welcome to stop by, but updates will cease for a week or two.
This is Jandar...

Stop the Presses!!
Alright! I've had just about enough of this, and I really don't know how to deal with it anymore. First of all, let me explain something to you: I don't get anything for doing this, for maintaining this site. I do it simply because giving the joy of playing classic games to others gives me pleasure in return. Comprehend this, and then also understand that I translate games, do some rom hacks, go on IRC and help newbies learn the ropes, answer every email message I recieve kindly and promptly, among many other things related to emulation. I work my ass off on this site, and yet I recieve no payment for what I do, I just want to give something back to emulation. This is the classic idea behind emulation, and it's something that I try to follow. Lately, however, I have seen a major change in the people becoming interested in emulation, one for the worse. I used to recieve email messages from those who I had helped saying things such as "Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions", or "Thanks Scott. If you ever need anything just e-mail me..", things along those lines. Recently I have been receiving messages along the lines of "Why the hell don't you have this utility posted there!!!", or "you bastard, you waited a f****** day to post the latest version of my favorite translation patch!!!!". I have received email messages along the lines of "hey dude, waz up! why the hell hasn't a working n64 emulator been released! You better get one out there before I get pissed!!". We have a MAJOR problem here! And I just can't take it anymore! It actually makes me wonder why I am doing this. Why am I taking the time to update this page when absolutely nobody respects what I do? I honestly don't know anymore if there is anybody out there that cares about this site, or really downloads the emulators so they can enjoy those classic favorites that I will alway cherish. Do they want to play the classics? Or do they want to get free games? There are some major problems in the emulation scene these days, and if I don't start feeling any better about the world of emulation in these coming days, don't expect me to spend my days amidst this crap to continue wasting my time...
If you can prove to me that there are still those who respect emulation, and those who really do care, then perhaps it will continue as always, but at this point I don't really know if Apocalypse will be here tomorrow...
And More Gameboy Translations
I have added two more translations for Game Boy games. These ones, however, are not translations to English, but instead translations to French. You can get the French translations for Zelda: Link's Awakening, and Final Fantasy Legend from the French Translations page.
Urusei Yatsura for Game Boy Translation
As promised, I have begun with the Game Boy translation projects. They will follow the same organization as the other games (divided by language), and be specified as Game Boy games. Right now I have added this translation from Transcore, and you can find it on the English Translations page.
Rockman / Forte Translation Updated
Yet another translation has been updated. This time it is AAGT's translation of Rockman / Forte. You can get version 0.2 from the English Translations page.
Bahamut's Lagoon Translation Updated
The Bahamut's Lagoon patch has been updated to version 0.05. The translation is still primitive, but enough is translated to at least enjoy the game. Grab it off of the English Translations page.
The Poll
As far as the poll goes, the opinions seem to swing toward adding Sega Genesis to the site. Vote now in the Quick Poll so that your opinion can effect my decision.
9/7/98
Another NES Utility
I have added a utility by the name of Radia Decompressor to the NES Utilities page. As the author says, with regards to the program, "This is a pretty limited program. All it does is extract the compressed word table from Radia into a Thingy-format TBL file."
9/6/98
Ghosts'n Goblins Level Editor
SnowBro does it again! This time he has created a level editor for the NES game Ghosts'n Goblins. Wow! You can find it on the NES utilities page.
Web Board Working Again
Although it is a bit lower caliber than the previous web board, this free web board service I found will do the trick for now. Hopefully the original web board will return soon.
Poll Returns
After starting to add additional systems to this emulation site, I am asking for your input on what system to add next. Be sure to vote in the current Quick Poll.
Game Boy Added To Apocalypse Emulation
A site that was previously known as dedicated to NES and SNES emulation is now expanding it's horizons to include Game Boy software, and soon even more. So far only Game Boy emulators are available, but utilities and translations will follow soon.
New Version of RockMan/Forte Translation
Yet another version of the RockMan/Forte Translation patch is available, you can find version 0.1b on the English Translations page. I also happen to know that another patch will be released very soon, and it is looking good.
Jump Page Removed
I'm sure that you guys didn't really appreciate the jump page that opened upon entering the site prompting you to vote for me in some stupid Top 25 site or whatever, and recent happenings in the emulation world have helped me to understand that things such as that are pointless, and only hinder emulation as a whole. I want you to come to my site because you like my site as it is, not because it rated highly in a Top 25 list. I still have the classic sponser at the top of the page in order to put a value on this page in real life, and I would appreciate some click throughs, but I will no longer abuse the reader with pointless adds and click through material. Jandar - Webmaster
Vertigo 2099 is Gone
Vertigo 2099, a group who released a huge number of rom packs throughout the past year or so, has come to the end of it's road. This was not only one of the largest rom releasing groups, it was one of the last. It's closing is a major hit on the emulation world. You can find the latest, and final Vertigo pack for the NES at Spirit in the Contraption.
9/5/98

The first patch released by #Emurom Translations, my translation group. Not much is done as of yet, but things are starting to come along. You can find this alpha patch on the Portuguese Translations Page.
Jandar Goes Into Translating
Yep, that's right, I am going to try my hand in the translation 'scene'. I am an experienced rom hacker, but do not speak Japanese, so I have found (er...formed) a Brazil based translation group , and am working on a Portuguese translation of Final Fantasy 6 for the Super Nintendo. This will not effect my work on this page in any way, fear not. Oh yeah, the group is known as #Emurom Translation, and you can find them here. You can see the English mirror which I maintain here.
