| AmigaOS |
v0.13b |
This emulator hasn't been updated in a while, and still has quite a ways to go before it is the emulator of preference. There are several other emulators for the AmigaOS that are superior.
Esnes
|
DOS |
v0.14a |
Esnes is not up to the level of snes9x or zsnes, but it is a good emulator. Esnes is faster than snes9x, and has decent sound support. I uses Esnes for a while before discovering better emulators. However, Esnes has been discontinued, see NLKE for explaination. |
GrimSNES
|
DOS |
source |
Just another emulator, but the source code is included here. Not worth using as an emulator, but possibly worth browsing through the source. |
| AmigaOS |
v0.15b |
This is quite possibly the SNES emulator of preference for the AmigaOS. Seeing as how I no longer have access to an Amiga, I am going on what others tell me, but this emulator is supposed to be worth downloading.
NLKE
|
DOS |
v0.02a (b15) |
The Esnes team and the NLKSNES team joined forces to create this emulator, the name of which is also the merging of the two older projects. The emulators Esnes and NLKSNES were merged to create this little beauty. This emulator takes the best of both worlds, including the speed and transparancies of NLKSNES, and the sound and compatibility of Esnes. Even though it is only at version number 0.02a, already it is looking good. |
NLKSNES
|
DOS |
v0.15d |
This is probably the fastest emulator around. You can play such games as Chrono Triger and Super Metroid on a 486DX2-66 with good speed. However, the emulator has been discontinued. See NLKE for expaination. |
RSRSNES
|
DOS |
0.2b + source |
This emulator is far from finished, but has been put on hold for a while. The emulator is fast, coded in 100% Assembler. And could become an overall decent emulator, but would require more work to reach that level. |
| DOS |
0.07x |
This emulator doesn't actually DO anything worthwhile. It is an emulator that can't emulate. Sim S.N.EX. can read the header information of roms, but doesn't do any emulating yet. Perhaps in a future release, perhaps not.
SNEeSe
|
DOS - |
v0.16f source |
This emulator can do some good stuff. It has now been discontinued, but can do some neat things, such as Mode7. Neat, but nothing that can't be done by other emulators. The source code is also available. |
SNEmul
|
DOS Linux |
v0.85b (DOS) v0.73 (Linux) |
SNEmul has become quite an emulator as of late. Many updates in the past few months have put it up there third on my list. Things just keep getting better with every release. |
| DOS - |
v0.340 source |
The first thing I heard about SNEqr is that it has a killer GUI, and they were right. Wonderful GUI, and a decent emulator too. It runs at a respectable speed, only slightly slower that Snes9x. Of course, there is a long way to go, there is no sound yet, or Mode 7, or transparencies. This emulator is very new, however, and it looks as though it will be getting better.
Snes9x
|
DOS Win95 Linux - Solaris SunOS RiscOS FreeBSD OpenBSD Irix BeOS AmigaOS - HP-UX N64 - - |
v1.12 (DOS) v1.07b26 (Win95) v1.11d (Linux[i386]lib5) v1.11d (Linux[i386]lib6) v1.10 (Solaris) v1.11d (SunOS) v1.05 (RiscOS) v1.05 (FreeBSD) v1.05 (OpenBSD) v1.10a (Irix) v1.05 (BeOS) v1.10a (AmigaOS) v1.05 (Warp-Up Amiga) v1.05 (HP-UX) alpha (N64) source code Windows Fix |
Much time has passed since it was announced that Snes9x would be continued, but it is here. The latest versions of Snes9x have arrived. They include FX support, among other updated features. It seems to be worth an excellent rating. Important: Mario RPG is NOT supported, this requires a separate chip other than the FX chip! |
SNESLite
|
DOS |
demo #1 |
This emulator was discontinued due to lack of time and interest on the part of the author. It is unfinished, and extremely slow. Not worth downloading. |
| DOS |
0.14b |
This emulator was discontinued due to the fact that between the features of Zsnes, Snes9x, and SNEmul, there is really very little left to accomplish in SNES emulation. Choose one of the major emulators over this one.
TrepSNES
|
DOS |
0.1 (source) |
The emulator is not worth using, but the source code is also included here, which may to some be worthwhile. |
Virtual SuperWildCard
|
DOS |
beta #1 (DOS) |
The Virtual SuperWildCard project has been discontinued since early 1997, it has very little to offer, and is not worth downloading. |
VSMC
|
DOS |
97.02d |
This emulator is dead. It was last updated in October 1996. Don't bother, unless you would like to catch a glimse of what Super Nintendo emulation was like so very long ago. |
Zsnes
|
DOS |
v0.715 |
With the Zsnes emulator, the emulation world has taken a major step forward. This was, indeed, the first emulator to support games which use the Super FX chip. For example, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Stunt Race FX, Star Fox, and many others, and it keeps getting better. Important: Mario RPG is NOT supported, this requires a separate chip other than the FX chip! |
