Nesticle
The single greatest emulator for the NES, no other emulator really comes close, Nesticle is in a class by itself. Some people say it is better than the NES console itself. Nesticle 0.43 supports mappers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 19, 22, and 23. It also has support for Game Genie codes. Nesticle v0.42 (win95)

Nofrendo Probably the second best emulator for the NES. It can't top Nesticle, but it also has some good features. Nofrendo supports mappers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 11, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 32, 33 and 34. It runs quickly, and is an overall decent emulator. Nofrendo v0.58 (DOS)
iNES
I suppose iNES would be a nice emulator if I was to pay the 35$ sharware fee and get version 0.7. As is, however, iNES is weak. I would suggest choosing Nesticle over this emu. iNES v0.5 (win95)
PCNES
Currently, Pcnes supports mappers 0, 1, 2, 3. It also has some support for mappers 4, 7, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 19, 32 and 34. There is no sound. PCNES v0.12b (DOS)
Ultimate NES
Ultimate NES really doen't have much to offer at all. There is support for mappers 2 and 3. There is partial support for 1 and 4. Not really anything worth talking about. So that's enough of that. Ultimate NES v0.11 (DOS)
Xnes
OK, I'll give you the rundown. Xnes has support for mappers 1, 2, and 3. It has partial support for mappers 4, 7, 11 and 9. It has no sound. It hasn't been updated since November, don't bother. xNes v0.45 (DOS)

Snes9x
In my eyes, Snes9x is the number one SNES emulator. However, there are some very close competitors. In fall of '97, snes9x was discontinued. Recently, however, the world of emulation was rocked by the news that snes9x would be continued by annonymous programmers. The next version has yet to be released, but when it is it will include Super FX support, making games such as Star Fox, and Yoshi's Island playable. This is one to watch. Snes9x v0.24 (win)

Zsnes
Most people feel that Zsnes is the superior SNES emulator. I suppose I am one of the only people who feel otherwise. Zsnes is an excellent emulator, it runs faster that snes9x, almost too fast on my pentium 166. Sound is equal to that of snes9x, and most other aspects are equal to or better than any other emulator. One thing I refuse to do is to get into an emulator war between snes9x and zsnes, and so I would simply tell you to try both zsnes and snes9x and decide for yourself. Version 0.390 had lots of new things added, you can see them here. Version 0.391 and version 0.393 fixed some bugs that popped up. Zsnes v0.393 (DOS)
SNEmul
SNEmul has become quite an emulator as of late. Many updates in the past few months have put it up there third on my list. The big improvement this release is the music ripper. This allows you to rip music from a game into a MOD file. This other big thing lately is the stereo sound. SNEmul v0.6.1b (DOS)
Esnes
Esnes is not up to the level of snes9x or zsnes, but it is a good emulator. Esnes is faster than snes9x, and has decent sound support. I uses Esnes for a while before discovering better emulators. The emulator is worth trying out, give it a shot. Esnes v0.14a (DOS)
SNEeSe
This emulator can do some good stuff. It has been recently resumed having been previously discontinued. Things like Mode7, and now sound are supported. Neat, but nothing that can't be done by other emulators. SNEeSe v0.16a (DOS)
