Akilla of NES4PC

Y DIENYDDIWR DA:

So what brought you into the world of Emulation?

AKILLA:

One of my friends told me about #gbinfow (an emulation channel) on IRC over 3 years ago, and so I got into it. That was way back in the days of VGB being "the thing". =) Ahh the good old emulation days. Kinda makes me sick looking at what the scene has turned into.

YDD:

What made you Feel like writing an Emulator?

AKILLA:

Well actually I started it because I learn programming languages by picking something to make and making it. The first C++ project for me was a 3d engine. Then I decided to write an emulator. I suppose secondary reasons were to get a free NES emulator for windows onto the scene and as something to do to pass my boredom away. =)

YDD:

Do you plan on doing other Systems?

AKILLA:

Yes, Johannes and I flipped a coin between the console Atari systems (2600/5200/7800) and the Mac Plus. The mac plus won, so we've just begun VERY preliminary work on that emu.

YDD:

Whats your Stance on "Next Generation" Emulation?

AKILLA:

I think it's kinda cool to see what programmers can do. I think that it should continue, taking the stance of emulators like bleem and a-saturn, which both require the real CD to play the games, you can't use illegal dumps.

YDD:

What can we see for NES4PC in the future?

AKILLA:

Hmm... Well soon I'll be rewriting the interface. I'll be using DirectX at it's finest soon. =)
I already use DirectSound for, well, sound. =)
I'll be adding DirectDraw for the graphics.
I'll be adding DirectInput for the controllers window, trying to make it kinda like Bleem's controller setup (I _love_ their controller config window).
I'll also be adding more mappers and fixing up the current ones. Save states will be added too as soon as the standard is decided upon.

YDD:

What is your oppinion on the IDSA?

AKILLA:

I think that with the cases like Nintendo vs UltraHLE (which nintendo decided not even to follow up on), and with the Connectix Virtual Game Station case, that we shouldn't have too many more problems with people like the IDSA, or have to worry about court cases from any console manufacturers .

YDD:

What Emulation Figure (any one in emulation) do you Respect most?

AKILLA:

Hmm... Probably still Marat (same answer as in the News-U-Lator interview). If you'd have asked me yesterday I would've said someone different, but he proved himself again today. =)
(in case you accidentally omitted the "and why?" part of that question...) In Nesdev (a discussion group about the NES), we've been bickering for the last 48 hours over a standard save state format. At the beginning it detracted into assaulting Marat, who appeared to be taking a stance of "it's not mine, I won't support it". However, today, he relented and became a contributing factor in it, and even said that he would work harder on keeping the iNES standards (mapper numbers and such) up to date.

YDD:

Anything Else?

AKILLA:

Nope Don't think so
