It's my birthday! - magitek
11:56 PM - I'm now 16 years of age (according to my clock, at least). As for what present I will be getting when I wake up later today, I do not know. That's a shame. Oh, well.. Any kind soul who wants to wish me a happy b-day can drop a message at the SPC-t Message Board. Good night to everyone.

CoolNESs Updated - jandar
6:38 PM - CoolNESs, an NES emulator for the AmigaOS, has been updated. The only change is a minor graphics fix. You can download the latest version from the NES Emulators page.

Ok, let's have some fun! - magitek
0:29 AM - Woohoo, now I can update. I'd just like to say that I got some help for SPC-t, so you should be seeing a lot more soundtracks in the next couple of days. Also, ZD-SPC has gotten an update by Nitro featuring skin support and a DDE server, whatever that is :)

get it at Zophar's Domain.

Let's play pass the buck! - jandar
0:18 AM - In the past, all news updates have come down to my shoulders for fear of overwriting other updates. Now that the news updating script works, however, we should see the other staff take more of a role in the news.

11/29/98

Table File Archive - jandar
The table file archive continues to grow. Paladin has supplied the archive with .tbl files from Abadox and Bomberman. I have thrown in a table from Megaman 1. I will try to do tables for all the Megamans in the near future. They like to switch character values around in mid-game, so I feel the best way to handle them is multiple .tbl files for each game.

Wzonka-Lad Updated - jandar
Wzonka-Lad is a Gameboy emulator for the AmigaOS. Version 0.99.12 has just been released, and can be downloaded from the Gameboy Emulators page.

MagiC64 Update - jandar
MagiC64, a Commodore 64 emulator for the AmigaOS, has been updated to version 1.8. The emulator requires a $20 shareware fee, however, and the demo available here is crippled, with a 10 minute time limit on playtime. You can still download it from the C64 Emulators page.

Game Genie Code Maker - jandar
Toma has created a little program to create Game Genie codes. However, it requires you to know quite a bit about the rom. You input the address in the rom where the values should be changed and the values they should be changed to, and a code is created to do just that. You can find it on the NES Utilities page.
Also, this is the very first news update to utilize the news updating cgi script I just put together. Yea! Quicker updates means more updates.

11/28/98

Newbie FAQ - jandar
I have added a FAQ for newbies to read regarding emulation in general. The FAQ was written by Moose M. and was used with permission. Find it here.

11/27/98

Spanish Translations - jandar
Paladin Knight Translations has pumped out a bunch more English to Spanish translation patches. You can find them all on the Spanish Translations page.

Poll Again - jandar
I must have been out of my mind to think I could put up the poll without logging IP addresses. I've reset the poll to zero, and now you cannot vote twice from a single IP address. If you really want to go through the trouble of logging off, logging back on, and voting a second time, be my guest. Even if you want to vote once each day, it doesn't bother me, but you cannot vote multiple times from a single IP address.

The Poll - jandar
The poll that this site once housed has been dead for several months now. If you have been visiting the site for an extended period of time you may recall the "Light-hearted and almost completely unrelated poll" from long ago. Now that I've set up a cgi-based poll, I've decided the best way to kick it in is to bring back the "LHAACUP". Be sure to cast you vote in the unrelated poll.

11/26/98

Boycott Linux Update - jandar
Boycott is a Gameboy emulator for both DOS and Linux. The Linux port has been updated to version 0.43d. You can download the latest release from the Gameboy Emulators page.

NES4PC Update - jandar
Anyway, I'm done stuffing myself with turkey, and here is an update for the NES emulator NES4PC. You can find version 0.20 on the NES Emulators page.

Virtual Boy Emulator - jandar
The worlds very first Virtual Boy emulator has seen the light of day! You can download the first release of VBEmu98 from the Virtual Boy Emulators page. The emulator is still very slow, so don't expect good speed upless you have a high level pentium. There is no sound, and some other minor problems, but a large number of games are supported, and obviously, this emulator is breaking new ground.

11/25/98

Non-Spring Cleaning - jandar
It's one of those 'every now and then' times again. I did a little cleaning around Apoc. It shouldn't effect much, but pages will probably be a little quicker to load, and there also may be a few dead links if I screwed up someplace. If you come across any of these yell at me.

Nesticle Save States - jandar
Due to popular opinion, I will be adding a save state section to the page. It will start with Nesticle save states and eventually expand to others. Send any and all save states you have to me at this address, and be sure to put the word Save States someplace in the subject line. All saves should be at the end of the game, or the final boss character, or another special scenario, and be sure to tell me which one it is. Also, if you would be interested in maintaining the save state archive, let me know.

Table Files - jandar
Thanks to Paladin for submitting several new table files to the Table file archive. If you have any table files that you've used in the past, be sure to help make the archive grow.

Translations in the Works - jandar
Thanks to Neil for keeping me up to date on some of the great translation projects in the works. You can find the latest patch of the Dragon Quest V translation on the English translations page. I have also added the Dragon Quest Monsters translation to the page, but no patch is out, and none is expected to be released until the translations is almost complete.

11/24/98

Translations Overhaul - jandar
I've just about finished with the Translations Overhaul. Every translations page has been divided by system, and every non-english language translation now includes percentages of completion. This is not yet finished on the english translations page, but will come soon.

Stuff and Stuffing - jandar
Here's the stuff:
Things have been really slow lately, and there has been almost nothing to update. It doesn't mean that I'm slow, just that the emulation community in general has been slow. Anyway, I'm out of school for Thanksgiving for the remainder of the week, so stick around and see what develops. That was the stuffing.

11/22/98

RockNES Update - jandar
You can find the latest version of RockNES, an NES emulator for DOS, on the NES Emulators page. Here's what's new in version0.58a:

Translation Pages Under Construction - jandar
I'm working though the languages one at a time to alter the layout of the translation pages. The new design will include the percent complete, something I've needed for quite some time, and will be divided by the system the game is for.

100 World Translation - jandar
Midas's translation of the game 100 World Story has reached that magical number of version 0.BLAH. Yes, indeed :Þ, you can download the latest patch from the English Translations page.

Gameboy 98 Updated - jandar
Gameboy 98 is one of the newest Gameboy emulators, and one of the only ones for Windows9x. You can download it from the Gameboy Emulators page. Here's what's new in version 0.04 beta 2:

Article: Warez vs. Emulation - jandar
This is the first article to be added to ApocEmu. I have written up an article targetting the controversial topic comparing Warez to Emulation. If you are involved in emulation, which you probably are if you are here, this is something to read. Take a look over at the Warez vs. Emulation Article.

Spanish Translations - jandar
I sure took my good old time getting this update up, but you can find updated translations from Paladin Knights Translations on the Spanish Translations page. These are from quite a few games, so just take a look and see what you can find.

Villgust Table File - jandar
Thanks to Taskforce, I now have a .tbl file from the Japanese Villgust to add to the site. The file was created entirely by Necrosaro, and Taskforce contacted me with it once work on the game was complete. Find it and more like it in the Table File Archive.

z26, an Atari 2600 emulator for DOS, has been updated to version 1.20. You can get the latest version from the Atari 2600 Emulators page. Here's what's new:

- A number of minor adjustments, mostly having to do with graphics of specific games. Probably the most interesting fix is the positioning of objects in Ms. Pacman and Yars' Revenge. Things no longer jump around near the left border in Ms. Pacman, and the rainbow thingy is now correctly positioned in Yars' Revenge. Thanks to Bradford Mott and Eckhard Stolberg for helpful information about object positioning.

11/13/98

For Those Interested - jandar
Daveclassics is back up and running.

Reminders and Random Thoughts - jandar
First a reminder: on the emulators page where all emulators are separated by their operating system, generally the best emulator for an OS will be on the top. I will probably add a note on each page to remind you of this. Some things I have in mind for the future: how about an archive of Nesticle save states? Or how about Nesticle movie files or game endings? Maybe something else you'd like to see on the site...let me hear your ideas, tell me what you think.

Two News Groups of Emulators - jandar
I have added pages for both Lynx Emulators and Atari 5200 to the site. You can find them on their respective pages.

11/12/98

I have added Bastard Son's doc on hacking save states from FF1 to the NES docs page. It includes detailed info on how to edit you saves from FF1, as well as some info on other Final Fantasy games.

Links Page Purged - jandar
I have gone over the links page and removed any broken links, or otherwise dead sites. Not suprisingly, the links page shrank substantially. If you would like to be linked from ApocEmu, send me an email, and I'll take a look at the site. If it's a worthwhile site, you find a link here.

Portuguese Translations - jandar
An addition comes to the translations to Portuguese page in for form of a new translation. Portuguese-it is working on Arkanoid, and now also a translation of the game E.V.O. You can find these patches and more on the Portuguese Translations page.

Ack! I missed a day! - jandar
Oh well, only the second day in several months that we've had no updates. I think I can get over it.

11/10/98

Instruction Manuals - ponchoman
There are now 50 more instruction manuals online, for a grand total 138! If you have any material you would like to submit, please email it to PonchoMan at the address given above. Thanks!

Davesclassics - jandar
I noticed that at about the time rumors began circulating, the number of hits this site recieved increased quickly. So I assume you are probably here looking for answers. I'd like to put this to rest by saying that there are no answers to give. When legitimate information comes, you will hear about it here, but until that time, I have nothing to say. Don't get pulled into a web of rumors until you hear official word. And you won't hear it here until it is official.

Dragon Quest 5 Translation - jandar
Apparently this one slipped past me. Partial Translations is in the process of translating the game Dragon Quest 5. You can find the latest patch (0.12) on the English Translations page.
Thanks to Nick for the info

New NES Emulator - jandar
NES4PC, a new NES emulator for Windows 9x, has been released. This product of AkIlLa^'s hard work has become available for download. Don't expect much from the emulator, however, because it is still in very preliminary stages. Most every feature is a long way from finished, but the emulator could easily go a long way.

11/9/98

Emuclassics.com - jandar
For the record, this site is now located at http://www.emuclassics.com/apocalypse. This is not a drastic change, and the address at emulnews.com will still work fine. However, try to point bookmarks towards emuclassics.com. The only reason for this is a change on the part of the emulnews staff, we are still located in the same place. Also, when possible, use the address http://apocemu.home.ml.org, in the situation that the site may move (although we probably won't in the forseeable future) it will continue to point to us. Also, in the case that the site may go down, we can forward that address to a page explaining why.

MySNES Page Relocates - jandar
The MySNES homepage has relocated to http://mysnes.webjump.com/. MySNES is an SNES emulator for the AmigaOS.

SPCAMP Release - jandar
This is a great little plug-in. You use this file along with Winamp, the greatest MP3 player on earth. This allows you to play SPC files with Winamp. The release is still buggy, and has a tendency to make some odd sounds when a song begins playing. It is an update for SPCplay. You can find it on the SNES Utilities page.

Snes9x for MacOS Updated - jandar
Version 1.1.1.1 of Snes9x for the MacOS has been released. You can find the latest version on the SNES Emulators page.

11/8/98

SPC-tacular SPCs - jandar
The latest and greatest addition to this site comes in the form of a another. MagiTek Knight, maintainer of SPC-tacular SPCs, has done somewhat of a merge with ApocEmu. The page remains separated, and maintained separately. Check the SPCs page for news updates and such. However, they are somewhat intertwined.
ApocEmu - all you could ever want, and then some

11/7/98

Game Boy Docs Added - jandar

I have added a page for Game Boy documents. Check out the Game Boy docs page.

Z26 Update - jandar
Z26, an Atari 2600 Emulator for DOS, has been updated to version 1.19. You can download it from the Atari 2600 Emulators page. Here's what's new:

- New frame synchronizer. Should fix weirdness of last couple of versions. (I hope.) We look at the VGA vsync pulse now, but with a timeout, so we can run the frame even if the pulse is missed. This helps to keep the game running smoothly if the operating system decides to steal processor time at the critical moment.
- No longer have to press shift key to get into mode 8. (It got to be a hassle.)

Famicom Updated to 4.04 - jandar
A release has come to Famicom, an NES emulator for Windows. You can get this release from the NES Emulators page.

11/6/98

11/5/98

Virtual Game Boy 1.3 Released - jandar
While the windows port has been out for a few days now, it is a piece of worthless software that costs money. So I did not report the news here. Now, a few additional ports of the emulator have been released. These include FreeBSD, OSF1, SunOS, and Solaris. You can download all of these ports from the Game Boy Emulators page.

FF1 Spanish Translation Update - jandar
Version 0.8 of Paladin Translations FF1 translation to Spanish has been released. You can pick up the latest patch on the Spanish Translations page.

11/4/98

HU6280 Updated - jandar
Version 1.83 of HU6280 has been released. You can grab the latest version from the TG-16 Emulator page. I also adjusted the font size for the emu news. If you have a problem with this new size, let me know, and I'll put it back to normal.

- All settings in the GUI should work now =) (except sprite update)

RockNES Updated to 0.57 - jandar
The latest version of RockNES, an NES emulator for DOS, has been released. You can download the latest version from the NES Emulators page. Here's what's new in this version:

- Gfx engine speed up, thanks to Zoop for help
- Sprite priority working 100%, thanks to everybody that helped me
- Fixed a bug (the last?) getting ROM Mapper number
- Added Mappers #22 (Konami - TwinBee 3), #32 (Irem - Image Fight), #33, #34 (both not tested), #68 (SunSoft - AfterBurner 2, missing background with unknown reason for now), #71, #78 (both not tested), #91 (not working)

- Fixed bugs in both frameskip systems (auto and normal)
- Fixed problem with Sprite #0 hit (games like Zelda 2, DuckTales 1&2 and Super Mario Bros.1 have correct speed again, fixing "half score" scroll in CastleVania 1, Zelda 2 and others
- Fixed a bug in Mapper #2 (Zelda 2 working ok)
- Removed option to get 50FPS ("PAL" mode)

11/2/98

Table Files Updated - jandar
Several new .tbl files have been added to the Table File Archive. These include Zelda 2, Dragon Warrior 1, and the translated version of FF3 for the NES. You can thank Jair for these files.

FF2j Translation - jandar
This update should have been done a long time ago, but somehow it slipped through the cracks. It's not really a major update, just fixing some small problems with the ips patch, but 1.03 of Neo Demiforce's FF2 Translation patch is out. I've added it to the English Translations page.

11/1/98

The Apocalypse! - staff
So much to say, so little time. I've give the brief rundown on what's new with Apocalypse Emulation.

- NES Roms Page - One of the largest additions is the NES roms page. This section includes not only the roms for several hundred NES games, but also Game Genie codes, cheats, typed instruction manuals, walkthroughs, and screenshots for many of the games. You can thanks PonchoMan, our newest staff member, for this wonderful addition to Apocalypse Emulation.

- Rom Locator - Airety has begun work on this aspiring idea. Includes links to rom sites (the pages, not the roms), and lists the roms they offer. Eventually, this listing will be searchable and expanded to cover many more sites. This is only the beginning.

- MacOS Emulators - This is Jandar's major addition to the site. After several people requested support for those using the MacOS, I have decided to add them to the site. As far as I know, every emulator for the MacOS is now included here, and can be found on the corresponding emulator pages. Enjoy it, we're one of the few large sites to support them.

- .tbl File Archive - Another brand new section of the site from Jandar. While still somewhat small, this section will compliment the other Rom Hacking sections here to help with Rom Hacking. Table files are used by many text editing utilities (in this case, particularly Thingy), and are very helpful in changing text. Hopefully this section will grow exponentially in the near future, but for now, it's only just begun.

- #apocemu - I have registered #apocemu on Dalnet. If anybody cares, feel free to wander in. Maybe even say something. And if you aren't going to say anything there, at least say something on the Web Board, it gets very boring there.

- Other Updates - Some other updates to parallel the Apocalypse include a new release of Paladin's Spanish translation of Final Fantasy I. Also, a new release of uNESsential can be found on the NES Emulators page.
