0:00 AM - The RuMSX page has moved to a new location at:
http://members.EUnet.at/lexlechz/RuMSX.html.12/21/98
Boo..hiss! - jandar
11:57 PM - The IDSA has closed down Lazarus (again), the largest archive of software for Amiga emulators anywhere, and the only possible way for people to get much of the Amiga software that is otherwise extinct. You can get the official word from the Lazarus Page.
11:53 PM - The translation patch for Rockman/Forte has been updated to version 0.5 by YnT. The majority of the game is completed by this point. You can get the latest patch from the English Translations page.
11:47 PM - Gameboy 98, a gameboy emulator for Windows, has been updated to version 0.05a. You can download the latest release of this emulator from the Gameboy Emulators page.
11:37 PM - The Windows port of UAE, an Amiga emulator, has been updated to 0.8.6r6. There are tons of changes, which can be found in this text file. You can download the emulator from the Amiga Emulators page.12/20/98
Geechy Update - jandar
10:03 AM - Geechyguy has returned home, not much worse for wear. He sends a thank you to everybody who emailed him recently, and you can read it for yourself at his page.
1:03 AM - Well here's a major 'yea!' for today. Version 0.98 of Thingy, the greatest utility anywhere for text editing in any sort of rom, has been released. You can download the latest version from the General Utilities page. Here's what's new:
- Pointer calculator support (& table file entry)! currently it works along with the inserter, not standalone.
- Inserter changed around a bit, now it will be able to insert larger scripts.
As for what the pointer calculator does: When you use the script insertion, you can define where the pointer table is located, and Thingy will alter the pointer table automatically as it inserts the script. Yea!
0:45 AM - Toma has released version 0.2 of his Game Genie Code Maker. If given a 6 or 8 digit game genie code, it will return what change occurs in the rom, or you can input the change that you want to occur, and it will give you a game genie code for that change. We're talking about changing certain bytes in the rom, if you're looking for it to create game genie codes for a specific feature, you are out of luck.
It's a happy day!12/19/98
Atari 800 Updated - jandar
11:50 AM - Atari 800, an emulator for a variety of the older Atari systems, has had the Windows port updated to version 2.5c. It can be downloaded from the Atari 5200 Emulators page.
11:41 AM - In the past I somehow missed NEStra, an NES emulator for Linux, which has now been added to the NES Emulators page.
11:27 AM - A new version of NES4PC has been released as well. Version 0.25 was a major release with tons of bug fixes and other improvements, and the next day version 0.251 was released to fix a problem with 8x16 sprites. You can download the latest version from the NES Emulators page
11:19 AM - The Unix version of fMSX a widely ported MSX emulator, has been updated to version 2.0 beta. You can download it from the MSX Emulators page.
11:10 AM - Fear not. I also realize, however, that the site has been without updates lately. This is mostly due to a major revamp on the site that I've been busy with. I will take this day to try and catch up on everything I've missed.12/16/98
Bad News - jandar
10:53 PM - Recently I have recieved some news that is of much importance to me, an should be to many of you. At first I was uncertain as to whether this information should be believed, for I have seen other similar stunts in the past. However, recent occurances have led me to believe that this news is, in fact, true.
On Monday, December 14, 1998, Rapheal Joseph Straub was driving home from a friend's. On the way home, a drunk driver swerved and hit his car head on. At 10:47 PM CST, Joey was taken to the Stormont Veil Emergency Center and was announced in serious condition.
The world can be a cruel thing sometimes. If you have it in you, I ask you to leave an email, here, to express your thoughts, wishes, concerns, or just to give a happy word to his parents and family. Our hearts go out towards Joey and his family in this tragedy, and we hope you all get through this okay.

IDSA Interview - jandar
9:11 PM - Elitegamer has recently conducted an interview with the IDSA. While I generally do not spend much time posting news about interviews, I felt this one deserved it. I thought in was interesting to say the least, and I truly believe you should take the time to read it through.
IDSA Interview
1:08 PM - The MacOS port of iNES, an NES emulator for a variety of platforms, has been updated to version 0.7.2.
As always, you can find the latest release on the NES Emulators page.12/14/98
e-mail change - magitek
11:32 PM - Since I am not satisfied with the speed of Geocities and I wish to get rid of it, I have signed up with iName. The address is bassically the same (mtek_knight@iname.com), so it's no big change. From now on, if you do send mail, send it there.
1:01 PM - Tile Layer, a wonderful graphics editor for a variety of different formats, has been updated and added to the General Utilities page. Along the same lines, an interview I conducted with SnowBro, the creator of Tile Layer, among many other utilities, has been added to the Interviews page. Those subscribed to the ApocEmu Newsletter received the interiew yesterday as a part of the first mailing.12/13/98
Well, it looks like we had a few problems... - jandar
5:30 PM - For the past few hours the site, apparently, has been down. Through some odd occurance the cgi-bin directory was deleted...how fun.
Most everything has been restored, but the counter is still broken, and the poll has been reset to zero. These minor problems should be fixed as soon as possible.

Stella Ports - jandar
10:24 PM - Stella, an Atari 2600 emulator, has been ported to Solaris, IRIX, and Acorn. They will be available for download here as soon as possible.
10:22 PM - z26, an Atari 2600 emulator for DOS, has been updated to version 1.22. The new version should be uploaded here as soon as FTP problems are resolved, until then, you can find the latest version at the z26 homepage.
Here's what's new:
"z26 now comes up with a list of ROMs to choose from if you type z26 with no parameters. In addition to being able to navigate the list in the usual way, with arrow keys and Home/End, you can type the first few characters of the ROM that you want to run and the cursor will position itself on the first ROM that matches the characters that you've typed. The currently matched character is highlighted. To run a random ROM, hit the backslash key."
3:09 PM - There have been some server problems lately that have prevented files from being uploaded, and some of you may be having trouble connecting to the site. Hopefully the problems won't last long, and thank God for the news cgi script...12/9/98
Snes9x Linux Updated - jandar
9:31 PM - Snes9x, an SNES emulator for a large variety of platforms, has had the Linux port updated to version 1.15. You can find the latest release on the SNES Emulators page.
2:46 PM - Of all the things I like to do, writing is one of my more powerful past-times.
What a better way to cover all the bases than to write about emulation? In light of this, I've spawned the Apocalypse Emulation mailing list. As a member of the list, you will recieve weekly mailings with the latest emulation news, evaluations of various emulators, perhaps an interview or two, even some other emulation related articles if I am so inclined to write them.
Get the best emulation news delived right to your mailbox every week, get ahold of any articles and interviews I conduct before they are released on this site. Get all the inside information on the most popular, or most promising emulators and translations. Take a chance and help the Apocalypse Emulation mailing list get started.

Interview with Gary Henderson, Co-Author of Snes9x - airety
9:43 PM - Geechyguy has posted an interview with Gary Henderson, co-author of Snes9x, about general emulation (mainly SNES). The general consensus is that is a very good read, but I'm not sure yet, I'm gonna read it now.
You can read it here.
RockNES Progress - airety
9:23 PM - And now I find a progress report on RockNES. A nice change from when I used to go weeks without updating, eh?

New iNES? Also a VGB98 tidbit. - airety

Famicom Disk System emulation

Majorly bugfixed PPU emulation
Completely rewritten mapper code
Direct saving of soundtrack to MIDI files
Speed control in iNES-Windows
many other small fixes and improvement
Sounds good to me, especially the direct saving of a soundtrack to MIDI. But who really knows when it is coming out??
Finally, in the new version of VGB98 there will be some fixes with the Color Gameboy emulation.

7:27 PM - The DOS version of Snes9x, an SNES emulator for a variety of OSs, has been updated to version 1.15. As always, you can download the latest version from the SNES Emulators page.

3:55 PM - After hours of work, I believe that any and all problems with the page should be fixed. Since I ended up editing each and every section of the page heavily, some links and images may be broken throughout the page. If you come across a problem, let me know, and I'll get it fixed up as soon as possible.

z26 Updated - jandar
11:49 PM - Z26, an Atari 2600 emulator for DOS, has been updated to version 1.21. You can download the current version from the Atari 2600 Emulators page. Here's what's new in the most recent version:
- You no longer need to type in the .bin extension for ROM filenames.
- z26 is now a little bit configurable. If you type z26 followed by some command line switches, but you don't include a filename, z26 will remember the command line switches as defaults. These defaults can still be overridden with a command line that includes a filename.
- The help screen that you get by typing z26 alone on a command line now has multiple pages. It comes up in graphics mode too. Thanks to Chris Pile for the line drawing code.
- A rare bug that occasionally caused graphics to be messed up at startup may have been fixed.
AAGT Changes Name - jandar
11:41 PM - The translation group previously known as AAGT, has recently changed their name to the current YnT, which stands for Yonin no Translators. This is the group translating Rockman / Forte.
12/2/98

12/1/98
Banner Problems - jandar
10:41 PM - The banners displayed by emuclassics on the Apocalypse Emulation site have been slowing the page to a crawl recently. Latest news report is that it comes from an AOL proxy which is bombarding one of their 16 servers. They are currently working on the problem.
Well. . . - airety
7:53 PM - I probably should update more often cause its my job to and all, but I was lazy and hated FTP. Now, I can write stupid things on here without even having to touch CuteFTP! Thanks Jandar.
:) Thumbs up guys!
December Cometh - jandar
5:26 PM - Well, it's the final month of 1998... and the ninth month of this site. Yes, I know the news archive doesn't go that far back, but I never really expected the site to take off the way it has, so it wasn't much of a concern at the time. In the past nine months (since March 21st to be exact), Apocalypse has come a long way.
In the beginning there were about six translations, seven or eight NES and SNES emulators, a couple utilities and three or four docs. The site has since taken off beyond my wildest dreams. I suppose, in the spirit of this discussion, that you should take a look at the oldest copy of the site I have around in Apoc Historic, and that was after about 2 months of work!
Nowadays there are several people working on the site, hundreds of translations, hundreds of unique hits daily, and tons more. I have utilities and emulators coming out my ears, with no end in sight.
I would just like to thank everybody who has been around, whether a newcomer or a long time visitor, thank you for making Apocalypse what it is today. We should see even more in the coming months, hopefully years.
- Scott
English Translations - jandar
4:58 PM - I've gone over the English Translations page very quickly, added some translations without patches yet, removed a couple projects that had been discontinued and were not very far into the game, and changed Neo Demiforce links to the new URL.
