Version 0.57 of the Gameboy emulator DBOY was released today, and I have added it to the Gameboy emulators page. 9:53 PM - NO$GMB News - Jandar
Well now..this is interesting. The NO$GMB homepage has been "closed." According to the site, it is currently uncertain whether the emulator will be continued or not, but if it is there will be a lot of focus placed on preventing the cracking of the shareware version. More information can be found on the site. I really don't know the complete story behind it, but apparently it links back to a group by the name of Utopia who was releasing full versions of the emulator. Don't let it become some huge soap opera scenario, but I felt it was something worth mentioning.

3:17 AM - Spanish translations - Bokudono
Hi. I'm a new staffer and will update the Spanish translations section. But first, there are some old patches we're missing that must be uploaded. Here are some from DJ Traducciones:

You can get them from the Spanish translations section.

4:16 PM - Adios - Neil_
As of sometime last night, I resigned my position at the SGC. I'm in the process of distancing myself from the scene, and this is yet another step in that direction. There is one thing I must say before I leave however. A recent trend in emulation has been for the vast majority of emulation news sites to begin accepting money from advertising. It's a trend that quite frankly disgusts me. The site owners claim that they need the money to pay staffers for their time. I do not see why anyone should get paid for participating in a hobby such as emulation. Emulation is not comercial. It should never be. Making money off of emulation turns it into comerce, and gives gaming companies more of a reason to fear and hate us. Another common excuse for the accepting of money is that it is needed to support contests. Why does an emulation news site need to have contests? Why can't a site that claims to be dedicated to bringing the reader news just present the news in an orderly and prompt fassion? Why do you need contests? The only reason I can think of is to increase hits. And why would one care how many hits a site gets? More people to click the banners and cause more cash to roll in. Zophar of Zophar's domain has gotten picked on for his site making money. The reason he seems to be the one crucified on this issue is he is the most vocal of the emulation news site owners, giving us such pullitzer prize winning quotes such as this one:

making money is not evil.

k?

we all do it

every major emulation site does this

Well, Zophar, there still are some sites which do not do that. The SGC is proud to be one of them. I am proud to have worked for a site with such a legacy as that. Emulation was meant to be free. Emulation was meant to be a hobby. Emulation was meant to be supported by the hard work of VOLUNTEERS. Not paid staffers. We at the SGC might not have always be the first to post news. We, however, posted with pride the news we covered. I will now leave the SGC, more firm and resolute in the knowledge that I contributed something to the community that I have grown to be a part of. Hopefully the influence of money will be washed away by a new generation of news sites. Hopefully others will recognize the stand that grassroots emulation sites like the SGC have made. Maybe we can still reform the emulation community into what it should be. Free learning, free gaming, free news, free minds.
-Neil_

12:43 AM - Happy Birthday SGC! - Jandar
Two years ago today SGC was founded. And for this special event, we have something absolutely wonderful for you! For today we unveil ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! YAY! Relieve!

Actually, we may end up doing something special at some point today, but I felt it was about time an emulation site decided not to swamp itself in it's own self-importance upon a day that really isn't all that significant.

10:12 PM - Relieve - Jandar

11:51 PM - RockNES WIP - Jandar
I'm slightly behind on this one, but the RockNES page was updated recently with some WIP information. Here is what they had to say about the progress of this NES emulator:

11:48 PM - Fixed MAME Binaries - Jandar
To be perfectly honest, I don't know if I already had the fixed version uploaded or not. Shortly after the initial realease of Release Candidate 2 of MAME, another "fixed" version was released, as sound did not work in the initial release. Because I wasn't sure if I had the fixed version or the original version, I've reuploaded the binary and source files to the MAME section.

10:50 PM - TileMod/TableLib Releases - Jandar
Jay has released version 1.00b2 of his TileMod utility, and version 1.0 of his TableLib utility. Eventually I will finish upgrading the utilities sections on SGC, and will update these utilities locally. Until that time comes, I will provide news about the releases, and inform you that you can find both these programs at the Transrelic Resource Site. Thanks to Jay for posting a message on our Message board about the releases.

9:26 PM - MAME RC2 Release - Jandar
Release Candidate 2 of MAME has been released, and can now be found in the MAME section. Both the binary and source files are updated. There are lots of changes, including 13 new supported games. The full list of what's new can be found on the MAME what's new page.

7:01 PM - Some MAME WIP - Airety
Just an update on the current MAME WIP:

2:53 PM - G-Trans Closed? - Jandar
G-Trans, a German translation group, appears to have closed it's doors. However, for those spontanious highlighers among us, apparently they plan to return better than ever.

2:48 PM - Upcoming Acorn Emulators - Jandar
David McEwen announced some time ago that he would soon be releasing many new emulator ports to RiscOS. These include Hu-Go, DarcNES, DGen, Generator, and many other emulators. Other emulator ports of David's can currently be found on the Acorn/RiscOS emulators page.

1:35 PM - Layout Development - Jandar
I've done some changes to the general design of the site. There shouldn't really be any visible differences within the site, but hopefully I've cut down rendering time substantially by eliminating quite a few tables and replacing them with GIF files. If the changes seem to cause any problems in your browser, be sure to let me know and tell me what browser you are using.

10:48 PM - Translation Patches - Jandar
I have uploaded the various new patches that were mentioned in the recent News Bits. They can all be found upon the English Translations page.

9:01 AM - News Bits - Neil_

10:52 PM - The day approaches - Jandar
In case you didn't already have it marked on your calendars, SGC has a second birthday coming up in the near future. I have only one word for you:

Relieve

9:53 PM - Sorry. . . - Airety
A few other things happened in the emulation world today, not as high profile, other than what I posted, but I am pressed for time today, and Jandar has a huge paper to write. Neil_ has been much busier lately also, and so the amazing three are not-so-free. Tommorow should be better, at least for me, and I will try to do what I missed and also what happened tommorow.

I am home right now, and so my connection is as slow as it gets. You may notice that I am linking for utilities right now. That is because Jandar is installing a new script for utilities, and I would prefer to use the new script to make the updates. Our utilities coverage has been lacking as of late, and we would like to become just as good in our utilities maintanence (which I can't spell) as we are in emulators and translations (most of the time, for an active three-man team, five if you count Dream Doctor and Vonpleck, six if Chuwim is still alive somewhere I think we do ok).

I'd like to congratulate EmuHQ on their first birthday. Many more guys.

I'd also like to thank Bongo` for e-mailing me about the release of his utility, a Hex Editor, that we missed. Usually I have to scour for news, Bongo` made my job much easier. Granted its a utility, so I don't want to do much more than mention it, but of course I will do that. His utility Hex Edit is now at version 0.98. You can get it from WakdHacks

Finally, we are forever hiring. You can help us with a new section we will be unveiling (it will require some work of course each week, but not that much), or by picking a non-English language and choosing to maintain the translations for that language (very little work but greatly appreciated by many). There is always room for another assistant maintainer for emulators and general emulation happenings, especially if you aren't lazy like me. If you are interested, e-mail Jandar, or even me. We don't pay, this is a volunteer position, but we might make you a T-Shirt or something if you stick with us for a couple months of good service.

I hope you and everyone you know continue to visit Snakeyes Gaming Corporation (aka Apocalypse Emulation). We are working on so much more, and of course it all works because we have loyal visitors such as you, who actually read this whole thing. Wow. How did you do it?

Ok, I got to sign off now. But please forgive the slight lack of coverage today, and be sure to check here daily for the latest emulation, translation, and utility releases, news, and happenings.

A spontaneous highlighter eh? Well I have a message for you then: Relieve

9:16 PM - KGB WIP - Airety
This happened a long time ago, but Jandar just alerted me that the KGB Site Has been updated with some WIP:

Hello! ^_^ Just checked and it's almost been a month since my last update so I thought i'd better provide some information for anyone interested (but there's NO NEW DOWNLOAD YET!).. :o)

What have I been working on? Well, I quickly added loading support for RAR archives and also support for all DirectInput controllers (big thanks to TNSe!!!). This means you can use all your fancy joysticks/joypads/whatever to play Gameboy games.. woohoo.. ! hehe..

The reason I haven't done a release yet is because I'm FINALLY working on sound (yeah.. finally got over my phobia ^_^ ). I've written the emulation code for 3 of the gameboy's 4 sound channels and are now trying to integrate the emulation code into the main program (currently i'm producing .WAV files from a sound register dump), hopefully this won't take too long.. this is my first experience with DirectSound and I'm still learning. :o)

Yay. okay.. that's about it.. i'll go now and do stuff.. cya!.. ^_^

10:03 AM - SNES Palette Editor v0.2 - Airety
A utility called the SNES Palette Editor was recently released by Yousei (the name may be familiar because he is working on the massive FF3e editor) but since we have been lacking a bit in utilities updates, we missed this. We are currently revamping the utilities section, and you can be guaranteed that you will soon be able to depend on SGC for utilities just as you do for emulators and translation patches.

For now, you can download the SNES Palette Editor from Yousei's Site

Sorry about any incoveniences.

Version 1.02 of the NES emulator RockNES has been released, and I have added it to the NES emulators page. Here's what's new in this version:

12:10 AM - What a dull non-day - Jandar
Yesterday was a very boring day around here. While things actually happened, I decided not to post anything because the actual existance of the day had yet to be determined, and thus I felt reluctant to post any non-existant news created on this non-existant day. As a result, I have postponed all the big important things that may or may not have actually happened yesterday (if yesterday actually happened) until today, because we are fairly certain that today exists. We are, however, still unsure as to whether or not it is the 1st or 2nd of March, but this confusion will pass in time.

(For the more gullible among us, I'm only joking, nothing much happened in the emulation world yesterday, and so there was no news. yay happy.)
