23:07 - Phantasy Star Release! - Tempest
Gideon Zhi, numero uno man of AGTP, has released another 100% patch! This time, it is for Phantasy Star Adventure for Game Gear. I highly encourage you to check this one out, being part of the excellent PS series. The patch can be found here.

14:29 - An Update - Jandar
Please excuse our dust and our dullness. The SGC is currently undergoing major alterations and movements, and the extent of these changes presently escapes even me. There are plenty of dreams for this site, at least one of which many people are well aware, others of which staff members of the site are aware, and perhaps even some that will be startling to everybody involved. Please bear with us during this period of instability as we try to get the ball rolling again.

4:16 - New ZSNES! - SirYoink
Version 1.28b of ZSNES is out. You can get the windows port here or go to zsnes.com for the DOS release. This release fixes SA-1 emulation bugs in version 1.28, which was just released.

22:19 - It is Finished. - Tempest
After a long period of hacking, translating, and beta testing, Bongo` of Stealth Translations has released the 100% patch for Gulliver Boy, an action RPG for the SFC. The link is to download the patch directly from Stealth's website because our translations archive is currently down for maintenance. Sorry if this causes any inconveniences. Now go play!

23:58 - WinUAE Release - Jandar
I'm slightly behind on this one, but a new version of WinUAE, a Windows based Amiga emulator, has been released. Like the DBOY release below, you can currently find the emulator on the WinUAE Homepage. The download will soon be available in our Amiga emulators section.

23:54 - DBOY Release - Jandar
A new version of DBOY, a Gameboy emulator for DOS, has been released. Version 0.75a is now available, can for the moment you can download it from the DBOY homepage. I will be placing this version within our Gameboy emulators section as soon as possible. I'm not sure what has been updated in this release, but if you can read Japanese I am certain that the DBOY site has the information upon it.

16:05 - Dejap News - Patrick Higgins
There has been some progress on successfully emulating Star Ocean and Far East of Eden Zero! It seems that Dejap Translations have been extracting the graphics from the roms and decrypting them seperatly, so you can download the graphic packs for use with ZSNES when they are done! Star Ocean is estimated to be 20% decrypted and Far East of Eden Zero is completely extracted and categorized, but not optimized. Dejap intends to release two graphics packs for Far East of Eden Zero a week (41 packs total). These graphics packs will allow Far East of Eden Zero to be fully playable in ZSNES (DOS) and soon in ZSNES (WIN) once RTP support is fully operational. English translations for both Star Ocean and Far East of Eden Zero are already underway. Anusp of J2e Translations has begun hacking Far East of Eden Zero and Dejap will mostly likely join him and work on the project together. Byuu has started some assembly hacking on the Star Ocean ROM. So far he has coded a variable width font routine and a font editor. Bongo` has agreed to help decompress the dialog to extract the script. This is very promising news for an english Star Ocean translation.

In other Dejap news, the Dragon Quest V translation is still nearing completion, but it seems like we won't see a full english translation of this game for a long time. Loads of ASM work has yet to be done and it is going through extensive testing as many nasty and hard to fix bugs have been found. Then they will begin the tedious proccess known as script formatting.

There will also be an upcoming patch for Tales of Phantasia which will fix some typos and bugs. Sometime in the future we might see (actually hear) english voices in the game if they choose to go that far. A few. The multilingual Tales of Phantasia translations are still being worked on, and some are nearing completion. Stay tuned and thanks to The Whirlpool for this news.

15:09 - NoPrgress Makes Progress!! - Tempest
Exactly six months after his first release, NoPrgress has put out another excellent patch for Dragon Quest VI! This one translates roughly 75% of the game's total dialogue. However, due to the nonlinear nature of the middle parts of the game, some minor texts may have been missed, but all of the main storyline up until the point where the hero has gathered all of the legendary equipment should be in english. What else can I say? Get the patch right here from our file archives and have at it!

23:52 - RockNES DOS Release - Jandar
Version 1.910 of RockNES has been released for DOS and I've added it to our NES Emulators page. Here's what's new in this version:

12:04 - Zsnes Releases - Jandar
Version 1.26 of Zsnes has been released, and I've added it to our page. Of course, Zsnes comes in three flavors now, it's available for DOS, Windows, and Linux, so I've added it to each section in turn. You can download the files directly by clicking the link below:

1:25 - TGEmu - SirYoink
Richard Bannister has released version .1.5 of TGEmu, a Turbo Grafix 16 emulator for the Macintosh. Get it from our TG16 emulators section

15:52 - Bye bye Plasticman's Emulation Zone - LordRed
Well, it looks like yet another ROM site has bit the dust. According to Plasticman, he couldn't get the funds for bandwidth costs and domain name payments. (Sound familiar?) You will be missed Plasticman. But, for now, I found a great site, Vimm's Lair. They have an extensive NES and SNES ROM archive and have a ongoing project where they plan on scanning in every manual for every game they have.Go check it out.

23:03 - R.I.P. Romhacking.com - Tempest
If you haven't been able to access any sites on Romhacking.com lately, it's not because of any temporary server problems. It looks like InVerse has decided to close the site's doors due to a lack of funds to support the domain name payments and bandwidth use. I quote InVerse :

- The domain expired. I can't afford to renew it. It takes over a week to get a reply from EW, so I figure it'd take at least another month to get moved over there. I was asked by the current host to have the site moved off the server by today. The site is currently down. At first, I thought OpenSRS had simply disengaged the domain but it appears that the server is actually down. I stopped ROM hacking and removed all emulation related materials from my hard drive. In accordance, I also deleted the Suicidal Translations site. So, in short, there's no new host and the domain name is expired, so someone else will just have to go buy the domain name once OpenSRS releases it into the wild and then start the site over from scratch if romhacking.com is ever going to be active again.

22:43 - News Bits - Tempest

3:01 - ZSNES updated! - SirYoink
As was foretold by the prophet Jandarius, ZSNES had been updated! Version 1.20 is out for Windows and DOS. Super Eagle mode is now faster; I can get a constant 60fps in it now. I don't think Pilotwings works yet, but Mystic Quest works again. Joy. Here's a complete list of what's new:

  • Final Fantasy Mystic Quest works again.
  • Fixed Empire Strikes Back crashing bug in the millenium falcon sequence
  • Removed all self-modifying code in ZSNES. This will make ZSNES crash a lot less on certain systems, especially during mode 7 sequences.
  • Implemented S-RTC chip, using the system clock as the actual time
  • Fixed crashing bug in certain mosaic scenes (eg. FF3 Phantom Forest) in the new graphics engine
  • Fixed a nasty crashing/corruption bug in the new graphics engine (both 8bit and 16bit)
  • SPC7110 emulation!
  • Altered HiROM/LoROM detection a bit - Fievel goes West works now
  • Open source preparations
  • In-game clock working for the windows port.
  • Fixed a memory leak problem in the new graphics engine
  • Added Cubic Spline Interpolation
  • Fixed a assign/compare size bug in the new graphics engine
  • Fixed b flag setting in BRK instruction in 6502 emulation mode
  • Added SPC7110 logger file output to help in the filesize clipping of the SPC7110 data files
  • Fixed a memory leak bug, fixing that nasty Win2K crash bug
  • Fixed key combination release
  • Fixed source code warnings/added necessary includes
  • Added high priority mode for Windows 2000 users and slower computers
  • Added large sound buffer option for people having DirectSound problems.
  • Fixed problem with ZSNESW and Opera causing a BSOD.
  • Fixed up error reporting for people experiencing problems.
  • Improved performance on 3dfx cards by compiling with DirectX 8 SDK.
  • Fixed a sound problem with people with messed up config files.
  • Fixed FF3 flashing line problem
  • Fixed mysterious sprite disappearing bug in the new graphics engine
  • Reduced noise in ToP opening theme. It works fine in the DOS port, but the windows port still seems to produce some static, probably because of the way how sound is updated in that port.
  • Updated Super 2xSaI and Super Eagle code (should be much faster now on MMX processors)
  • Added gzip support
  • Added support for ViBRA16 cards
  • No longer requires zlib.dll file, now statically linked. ZSNESw won't crash anymore if you try to load a .zip file without that dll file.
  • Now compiled using an optimising compiler
  • Almost a fully re-written DSP-1 emulation engine!
  • Fixed memory leak problem in the windows port during exit
  • And more ...
