The Mac version of Generator, a Sega Genesis emulator, had been updated again. Version .2.3 fixes a nasty bug introduced in version .2.2 which caused many games not to work. Get it at bannister.org.

2:20 - Meka Release - Jandar
The author of Meka has been on vacation for the past week and has spent it working on his emulator. The week ended with the release of version 0.58 of this GG/SMS emulator. Actually it's a multi-console emulator, but it's probably known primary for it's GG/SMS emulation. Anyway, you can download the newest version from the Meka homepage. Yay!

2:14 - RockNES Release - Jandar
Version 1.950 of RockNES for MS-DOS was released recently. It can be downloaded from the RockNES homepage until we get our emulators archive up and running around here. Here is what's new in the latest version:

• Fixed $6000-$7FFF CPU bank I/O, many broken mappers are working again;
• Fixed a bug on $4003/$4007 writes (sound regs);
• Fixed the number of CPU cycles per sound sample;
• Fixed color emphasis (setting a palette range with no v-sync), the CMC80's demo works fine;
• Fixed NES movie status flag (damn it);
• Added mapper #44 (1991 Super HiK 7 in 1 384K), untested;
• Enabled 8 sprites per scanline limitation (fixes some games);
• Scanline #0 is being displayed again;
• Fixed pattern table offsets dumping (seeks all VideoRAM banks);
• Fixed a major problem with directories setup;
• Fixed bitmap centering when using SuperEAGLE;
• Re-added kritz' GameGenie core, slightly changed;
• Game information dumping slightly improved (+path and +EOF string);
• Changed the config file extension from rnsetup.CFG to rnsetup.INI;
• Usual cosmetic changes and minor bugs fixed;
• Documentation slightly updated.

2:10 - NSF Archive - Jandar
I added a couple dozen songs to our NSF archive we are still a long way from completing the archive, as I'm still working on the 'B's, but we're getting there. Also, the emulators should be on their way back before long. The staff has been hard at work bringing the archive back together so that it should be public (at least a couple of portions of it) very shortly.

15:43 - RockNES updated! - PKT Paladin
Shortly after the release of RockNES v1.941, Fx3 has released RockNES 1.942. Actually, he released it twice in one day, the newer version available on his page provides the following changes:

• fixed sound duty cycles configuration. Redownload it case you hate the current setting :-)
• Fixed ROM information saving (header + CRCs in a text file);


• Fixed mirroring state loading for RSx files (when an unknown value is found);


• Fixed a stupid GUI bug: no more emulation reset when you leave the GUI byfirst time;


• Fixed a small flaw in the scanline cycle calculation;


• Fixed a small flaw in the MMC3 scanline counter (from previous version);


• Fixed mapper #68 (Batman: Return of Joker - USA/Jap - works fine again);


• Added a patch to fix mirroring in Super Cars game.

18:49 - BGB updated - PKT Paladin
BGB, an emulator for Gameboy, has just brought itself up to the level of emulating Gameboy Color. A new version, 0.4, is now available. Here's what's new:

• Added GBC support.
• Fixed bug in auto-frameskip code, it is now smoother.
• Minor change in video engine, "the addams family" and "starfight" now run.

5:07 - Snes9x update! - PKT Paladin
The windows port of Snes9x has been updated to version 1.38. Here's what's new:

• Added support for Star Ocean and Street Fighter 2 Alpha decompressed graphics packs from dejap. Used a binary chop search rather than a linear search to locate correct decompressed graphics more quickly - should help emulation speed during later stages of the game.
• Included OpenGL support into the Linux port and speeded up the Windows OpenGL implementation slightly. The real speed up would occur if I could figure out how/if 16-bit textures are supported in OpenGL because at the moment the 16-bit software rendered SNES image must be converted to 24-bit before being uploaded as a texture...
• Included the latest ZSNES DSP-1 code. Now Pilotwings, SD Racer and Suzuka 8 Hours are playable. Aim For The Ace, Super Air Diver 1 & 2 and Syutoko Battle 94 are also playable, but with bugs. Thanks to zsKnight, _demo_, et al for all their hard work.
• Another Daffy Duck: Marvin Missions screen flicker problem worked around - writing to the IRQ enable register shouldn't clear any pending IRQs, but Sieken 3 seems to require this or else the game hangs. Special-cased Daffy Duck for now.
• An NMI emulation bug was triggering a Panic Bomberman World game bug, crashing it. Basically, if a game enables NMIs after the normal trigger point, the NMI should not trigger if the game has already read the NMI clear register.
• Panic Bomberman World requires SPC700 memory to be initialised to zero on reset otherwise the game hangs when a tune finishes and another one should start.
• Added mouse pointer auto-hide to the Windows port. Much better than the turn the mouse pointer into a black dot method I was using before.
• Included the latest ZSNES Super FX code. Not sure if it fixes actually fixes any games.
• Added an offset hack for Strike Gunner to get the scrolling ground layer to line up correctly - another offset-per-tile bug hacked around for now.
• Arrr! Left in some debugging code in the last release that prevented all games that need the slower SPC700 timing from working. Removed it.
• Hmm. The broken cut-scenes in Deep Space 9 seem to indicate that I haven't got the emulated clock speed of the 65c816 CPU correct yet. And not by a little bit - a 9% too slow error. Hacked special timing for the game for now.
• Added triple-buffering to Windows port - enabling double-buffering actually enables triple-buffering if you have enough free video RAM, defaulting to double-buffering if you don't.
• Fixed another crash bug in the interpolated mode 7 code - if no scaling was being used (either up or down) and screen repeat was enabled and the screen was flipped horizontally, the routine would crash Snes9x. Was causing Snes9x to crash during rock monster boss stage of Castlevania 4.
• Oops. Got the initialisation of the default SNES screen width and height round the wrong way - could cause a X Windows System error message on the UNIX port after loading a ZSNES freeze file.
• Included the unofficial Windows port emulation fixes for several games including Kentouou World championship and TKO Super Championship.
• Included ??? improved Anti Res. sound sample decoding routine and updated the C version to match.
• Included Anti Res. improved sample decompression code he sent me ages ago, but for some reason I didn't include. Sorry. This version seems good enough to leave enabled all the time.

16:06 - RockNES v1.941 released - PKT Paladin
Just two days after the release of RockNES v.1940, Fx3 has given us yet another version which has many fixed errors and even some more implemented features. Here's what's new, directly from the RockNES homepage:

• The memory leak fix hadn't been enabled! It's ok now;


• Fixed a bug in the mapper #21 (damn it);


• Fixed a bug in the mapper #151 startup;


• Fixed VRCxx IRQ timing for the new ppu timing;

15:09 - HeboWin release - PKT Paladin
HeboWin, another Japanese Gameboy emulator, has been released. This emulator currently supports Mappers 1, 2, 3, 5, Color emulation, save state saving / restoring, and keyboard/joystick input. This is the first release, version 0.04, and it can be downloaded at the HeboWin Homepage.

It appears that the server was inaccessible between 5:40:41 and 7:36:58 today...I'm helplessly at work right now, and I'm not exactly sure what happened, but we're back up and running now. I will be sure to update this post when I know more.
8:27 PM Update: Seems there was a power failure in the location of the server. It should have kicked right into the backup power without a problem...don't know why it didn't do that...

2:34 - Photograph Boy! BEWM! - Tempest
Zatos, staffer at The Whirlpool and webmaster of Zatos Hacks has released his first complete translation, Photograph Boy for PC Engine! It's a 99% patch, but why only 99%? The title screen hasn't been translated yet. Pick up the patch right here.

16:30 - Star Ocean Menu Patch - Tempest
So you have Star Ocean, you've applied the graphics packs, and you have no idea how to play the game? Then you're in luck. Chief Ug has released a Menu Patch that should translate all the menus in Star Ocean! Apply the patch and be merry. None of the dialogue has been touched because of the Extemely Evil compression scheme that the game uses, however. We'll just have to wait for the DeJap patch for that =).

2:47 - FCE Ultra Releases - Jandar
As of the 4th, version 0.60 of FCE Ultra has been available. FCE Ultra is an NES emulator for Windows and Linux (and DOS, but that one wasn't updated), and you can download it currently from the FCE Ultra homepage. Here's what's new in this release:

• Various speed optimizations.
• Sound is no longer messed up when a JAM/KIL opcode is emulated.
• Fixed an overflow bug that occured when $4014 was written to during certain(rare) conditions.
• Fixed a few save state bugs.
• Fixed a MMC1 CHR bank switching bug.
• Added emulation of the MMC5's WRAM write-enable/disable registers.
• Fixed a sound frame IRQ emulation bug. "Qix" works now.
• Added UNIF support. Some of the board emulation is still a bit buggy, though. Look at the documentation for a list of supported boards.
• Updated the "Palette Notes" section of the documentation. Also fixed a few other problems with the documentation.
• Added support for loading files in the PKZIP and gzip compressed file formats via zlib.
• Added the ability to configure the first scanline and the last scanline to draw to the screen. Enabling PAL emulation no longer will cause all 239 scanlines to be displayed, though an option to override these settings for when PAL emulation is enabled may be in the next version.

I believe I have the entire translations archive moved completely over to its new state of PHP/SQL goodness. The archive itself, the Translations Search Engine, and the scripts for us staffers to maintain the archive with should all be ready and set to go. If you find any broken links to the old perl script please let us know. I'm going to bed now, but tomorrow comes the next portion of the site =). Oh, the links page has also been redone with PHP/SQL, and can be found here. I have implemented a rating system for the links page where sites are rated out of 5 stars. However, in converting from the old design I set every site to have only 1 star at the moment. The actual rating will hopefully take place over the next few weeks.
