A translation patch for the NES game Cocoron has been released. The translation was done entirely by Akujin, and can be found on the English Translations page. I havn't played it yet, so I can't give you my opinion, but I'm going to go do that now.

Recently Y Dienyddiwr Da has been working with a ton of data on the Final Fantasy 1 ROM. He's put together some docs and recently a utility to edit the spells in FF1. I plan to get all the pieces put together in the next 24 hours or so and add the docs and utility to the site. Until then, you can discuss it all on the Message Board.

11:38 PM - Bishojo Sexy Derby Translation - Jandar
Spinner_8 has released a complete translation of the FDS (Disk system for the Japanese version of the NES) game Bishojo Sexy Derby. As for what it's about, don't ask =). Until I'm able to add it to the English translations page, you can find the translation at the Dragoon-X Translations site, where the project is being hosted. You can use Famtasia or fwNES to run the game..probably others too..but those are my suggestions.

8:03 PM - MGX Version 0.10 - Jandar
MGX, a Game Gear emulator for DOS, has been updated to version 0.10. It can be downloaded from the Game Gear emulators page. I don't know what all is new because the documentation and homepage are both in Japanese only.

10:39 PM - One of Wook's tips.. - Jandar
I've never been much a fan of Wook's tips (only 'cause I like to keep things here emulation related), but I couldn't help but post this tidbit of info that I can attribute to them. Wings of Fury, which was a great old game I used to love playing for the Amiga years ago, is going to be released for the GBC. This was one of the games that helped get me into emulation because I wanted to play the Amiga game after getting rid of the Amiga..(still got a screen shot of the title screen hanging in my room =).

And now, back to your regular emulation related news..it won't happen often, and I'm sorry..but it was neccessary. =)

9:34 PM - School and Such - Jandar
Tommorrow marks the first day of my senior year of high school. This means, of course, that I won't have as much time to dedicate to this site, but I think we'll do fine..we always have during past school years =). There is one bit of light at the end of this tunnel though. Because I'm taking the majority of my classes at a local college for college and high school credit, and the college doesn't start until mid-september, I'll only have two classes a day 'til then. I doubt anybody really cares, but rambling can be fun and exciting sometimes =). I've also spent the last few days getting ready for the start of school, and have a couple of scripts that should make maintainence of this site easier, and thus let us keep going at our normal rate even with school starting. Anyway, that's what's going on at my end..

8:37 AM - MGX Release v0.08 - Jandar
Just a few days after the last release, another version of MGX has been released. Apparently v0.08 is a bugfix release that allows the emulator to run in pure DOS again. Thanks to Daves' for info one what's been updated in this version. You can download MGX from the Game Gear emulators page.

12:37 AM - Atari 800 Release (Slightly late) - Jandar
I'm apparently a few days late on this news, but the DOS port of Atari 800, an emulator for a variety of different Atari systems, including the Atari 5200 has been updated. It can be found on the Atari 5200 emulators page. Here's what's new:

A new version of the Atari 2600 emulator z26 has been released. It's pretty much just a bugfix release, and has had the following changes:

• A fix to a minor problem that was introduced in version 1.33 that would cause some games to display in the wrong position or to display the wrong number of scanlines.

11:59 AM - Polish Translations... - Dream Doctor
Well DreamForce has released their update patch for Super Mario Bros. 2, with several grammatical errors fixed and some text that was somehow forgotten has been translated. Super Mario Bros. 3 and Final Fantasy 1 have made some progress no patches yet though.

11:45 AM - Fellow Release - Jandar
Fellow is an Amiga 500 emulator for DOS, and it hasn't been updated in almost a year. However, even after this long span Fellow has proven that it is still kicking, and new version was released that fixes many different bugs. It can be downloaded from the Amiga Emulators page.

11:31 AM - DGen 1.17 - Jandar
A new version of the Genesis emulator DGen was recently released. It can be downloaded from the Genesis emulators page. It features the following improvement:

• Added in Joe's new graphics engine with fixes to the Window/Scroll plane interaction (thanks to Steve Snake for the information). Herzog Zwei's 2-player mode is now okay, and I imagine you will see improvements in other games as well.

Sadly, this seems to be the only news you'll see for today..but I've finished the Arcade emulators pages in the Windows emulators page. There are still more to be added too, but it's at least presentable.

10:28 PM - Windows Emulator Page Complete - Jandar
I've finally completed the archive of Windows emulators, with the exception of arcade emulators =(. The next step will be to complete the Windows arcade emulators section and then change the DOS arcade emulators section so that it sorts by the game emulated in the Single Arcade Emulators section. After that I'll move onto the revamp of the Unix emulators page. Wheh..that's a mouthful.

7:53 PM - Super Mario RPG Spanish - Jandar
Sorry I swiped this one Dream Doctor, but Paladin informed me that PKT has released a 99% complete Spanish translation of Mario RPG, and the patch can now be found on the Spanish Translations page.

7:23 PM - New Release of MGX - Jandar
MGX is a Japanese Game Gear emulator created by BouKiChi. Version 0.04 of this emulator was released today, but I really don't know what's new because all the documentation is in Japanese. It can be downloaded from the Game Gear Emulators page.

7:28 AM - z26 Release - Jandar
Version 1.33 of z26, the Atari 2600 emulator for DOS, has been released. You can find it on the Atari 2600 Emulators page. Here's what's new:

• An assortment of 50Hz video modes for use with PAL games. These modes are all 256 scanlines tall so even the tallest PAL games like aciddrop.bin and seamnstr.bin can be seen completely in a more or less normal size video mode. Unfortunately not all monitors can be used with these modes. Old fixed-frequency monitors have problems with them, but modern multi-frequency monitors that are capable of syncing at 50Hz are pretty common so I expect most people won't have problems with them. To enable these video modes to be used automatically whenever z26 is running a recognized PAL game, specify the -5 command line switch. z26 will then choose a 50Hz video mode that most closely approximates the 60Hz mode that you've selected with the -v command line switch.

10:02 PM - NES demo ROM coded by Jandar - Jandar
Well, I've been busy the past day or two, and it hasn't been with the site. I've been busy coding a little demo NES game in 6502 ASM, which I've now posted on the Legal ROMs page. It's a pretty crappy little game, but it taught me a lot about 6502 ASM, and about the internal workings of the NES system, so I'm hoping that I can make use of that knowledge in future projects. Download "Crap Demo Shooter" here now!
Check it out, I know it's buggy, I know it pretty much sucks, but it's taken me a lot of time and effort and I'm proud of it.

Version 0.03 of MGX, the Sega Master System emulator for DOS, has been released. It can be found on the SMS Emulators page. I don't really know what is new, because the site and documentation is entirely in Japanese. If anybody has more info on this release, let me know.

3:09 PM - Doraemon RPG Translation - Jandar

11:25 AM - FCE Ultra Release - Jandar
A new version of FCE Ultra, the NES emulator for DOS, has been released. It can be found on the NES Emulators page. Here's what's changed:

• Mapper 1(MMC1) improved.
  
• Mapper 9(MMC2) improved.
  
• Mapper 10(MMC4) improved.
  
• Sound improved slightly.
  
• Eight sprites maximum per scanline limitation is now emulated.
  
• The size of each array of pointers to read/write functions was four bytes less than it should have been. This caused problems(crashing) with games that read/write to $FFFF. This bug has been fixed.

A new version of Snes9x has been released for Linux. The Windows port is set to follow a few days from now. Right now you can download it from the Snes9x homepage, because, unfortunately, the SGC Unix emulators page isn't ready to go yet.

10:20 AM - RockNES Release Cometh - Jandar
The RockNES release that was foretold yesterday has come. There have been quite a few changes..but I was sort of hoping to see the end of the world.. Version 0.95 can be downloaded from the NES Emulators page. Here's what's new:

• Added a new blitter (enabled by default). Games should work at full speed in a P166 with frameskip 1, with *VESA enabled* only. To use the old one, use `-oldblit' option;
  
• Minor fix for PPU scrolling (sync fixed, Karateka works fine!);
  
• Fixed NES movies (file format, recording and playing);
  
• Added mapper #151 loading for iNes format;
  
• Fixed mapper #15 loading, and a minor bug out;

Just a little update on how the revamp of the SGC emulator archive is coming. As you may have noticed, the MS-DOS section is done, and the Windows section is progressing nicely. It should be done within the next day or two. After that I'll probably move on to Unix based emulators and progress from there. Keep your eye on it. I may even add an option to search for the best emulator for the system you need on the OS you have..we'll just have to wait and see, now won't we?

12:44 PM - Interesting News.. - Jandar
I found this news on ZD, and thought it was quite interesting. Apparently Yuji Naka has a little emulation experience =).

Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic The Hedgehog and NiGHTS, has found one slight silver lining to the piracy issue. He made the following comments in a recent interview in GameWeek.

Naka: I once made a Famicom (the Japanese name for the Nintendo Entertainment System) emulator for the Mega-Drive (the Japanese name for the Sega Genesis). It was just for my own personal play, and I couldn't play every game with it. It was just for fun, but it was fun to call people over and show them Mario running around on a Mega-Drive.

GameWeek: You're not the only one doing that kind of switch. I recently saw a Game Boy cartridge that had Sonic.

Naka: I have Sonic for Famicom. I knew that I really was important when they started pirating my games.

5:09 PM - WinUAE Release - Jandar
Yesterday WinUAE, the Windows port of the popular Amiga emulator UAE, was updated to version 0.8.8 Release 6. While I'm still working on the revamp of the Windows Amiga emulators section, I thought I'd post the news now.

4:30 PM - News Archive Format - Jandar
In the past the news archived prior to the big layout change at Christmas 98 was separate from the more recent news due to a layout difference. Today, I consolidated all of the news into one general format so that it's much easier to browse. In the near future I may also add a script to search the news archive. Now that the archive is all together, it really makes me realize how long SGC (or Apocalypse Emulation) has been around..It's been a long year and a half.

8:59 AM - Spanish Translations - Jandar
PKT has released a partial Spanish translation of Super Dante: RPG Maker, as well as a retranslation of Final Fantasy one that is a higher quality translation. Find them on the Spanish translations page.

8:44 AM - Another(!) Zsnes Release - Jandar
Yet again the Zsnes emulator has been updated in a minor release. Version 0.952 includes the following changes:

• Fixed a small H+V IRQ timing problem
  
• Fixed the bug which caused HiROM games from not loading properly through the commandline
  
• Fixed some vertical off by 1 line bugs
  
• Attempting to save over read-only files shouldn't mess up anymore

11:39 PM - Norwegian Translation - Jandar
Well, I recently discovered that a Norwegian translation of Final Fantasy 1 has been started. Not to be left behind in our world-renowned category of foreign translations, I've added a Norwegian Translations page. The game is translated up to the point where you give the dwarves the TNT.

8:17 PM - Unrelated News - Airety
I just found out that the AMD Athlon processor severely outperforms the Pentium 3 on ALL platforms. Yes, even 3d gaming. I feel very cool, being as though I am a solid AMD supporter. Now, if any of you would like to buy me a new Athlon 600, please do. I need to replace my super duper AMD K6-2 266 :)

Thanks to Paladin, the size of the SPC page has nearly doubled in the last few hours. He took the liberty of helping to add many more SPC sets to the site.

8:28 AM - Another Zsnes Release - Jandar
A second Zsnes release has come in the past few days. Here's what's new in 0.951, which can still be downloaded from the SNES Emulators page:

- Fixed up the directory changing bugs that plagued v0.950
- Start with newest save option now works with the save directory defined
- Fixed up a crashing bug when a read only file is loaded
- The volume level didn't modify the echo volume

1:53 AM - Help Wanted - Jandar
Over the years I've always found a way to keep SGC well stocked with the latest news and great file archives with relatively little help from the outside. Airety provides welcome help, but a staff of two is still a limited crew. The site is growing rapidly, and between the demands of maintaining a larger and larger site, and the busy life of a student who's about to go back to finish his senior year of high school, it's very difficult to keep SGC updated in the ways I like to. I'm hoping to expand the staff of SGC and thus help the site server you better. Any help is good, but I've made a list of some positions that I think could make the operation of this site much smoother.

Yet another release of a quality SNES emulator today. This time Zsnes has been updated to version 0.950. It can be found on the SNES Emulators page.

SNEmul has been dormant for nearly a year now, but today there came an update out of the blue. Version 0.90 can be downloaded from the SNES Emulators page.
Here's what's new:

• implemented the SuperFX(still buggy, but work enough to play Yoshi Island)
• interleaved ROM are now supported
• implemented the DSP1.
• emulation of the SNEmul mouse.
• emulation of the SuperScope(doesn't work correctly yet).
• SNEmul can load zipped ROMs.(only one ROM by Zip file)
• better joypad support(and more joypads support, like SNES pads)
• fixed some bugs in the cheats dialog
• corrected and optimized memory mapping.
• optimized tiles decoding
• fixed a bug with VRAM access.
• limited the number of frame skipped by the "auto frame skipper"(9)
• better tiles caching system.
• fixed some bugs regarding SRAM.
• better SPC700 speed hack(some games may run much faster)
• fixed a bug concerning sprites
• corrected some problems with MODE7.
• SNEmul is now compiled with pentium optimizations.

10:00 PM - Spanish Translations - Jandar
A couple new Spanish translations out from PKT:
Starfox for the SNES 100% translated, and Super Mario RPG has been updated to 70% translated.

2:10 PM - Raine Release - Jandar
Version 0.24a of Raine, the multi-arcade emulator, has been released. It has 15 new playable games, and many more changes. You can see the list of changes here, and download the latest version of Raine from the Raine Section.

1:09 AM - Missed RockNES Update - Jandar
In the last few days of revamping the site I overlooked a release of RockNES. Version 0.94a fixes a problem that may have caused the emulator to crash on startup for some people.
