SMC-Ripper v1.0 - README.TXT Features: - supporting 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8 bitplanes SNES tiles - supporting NES tiles - 640x480 256 color GUI (Req. VESA 1.2 OR 2.0) - The palette-thing will be dependent on the name in the ROM (instead of the file) - Palette stuff like import/export will be available in SMC-Ripper - 4x6 tile window Stuff: I know Naga is fast but it have a GUI that only Bill Gates could love. ;) But if you like fast programs with useless GUI's then I think that you should check out Naga because it is quite good if you just want to browse through the ROM. I got lots of help from Frank Dwane.. He gave me great info on how to decode 3bpl and 8 bpl. Notes: Don't change bitplanes while you are editing a tile cause it will get wrong when SMC-Ripper stores the tile back into the rom.. Keys: Keys that currently are available in the editor is: ESC - Quit S - Take a screenshot (Will save as Ripper##.TGA) F1 - Tools menu F2 - File menu F3 - Palette menu F4 - Options menu F8 - Store all the tiles in the window, to the ROM Ins - Store active tile into ROM Del - Remove active tile from tile window + - (Numpad) Vill increas the offset in the ROM (Needed to find most graphics) - - (Numpad) Vill decrease the offset in the ROM (Needed to find most graphics) Known bugs: - If you try to go to a drive which is empty (Like A: without a disc or cdrom without a disc) the program will kick your sorry litte as right back to DOS or Windows for that matter.. - The VESA-thingie isn't what it could (should) be, but it works on the computers that I've tried it on anyway. (More or less) To get the benefits of VESA 2.0 you have to load UniVBE even if your card have VESA 2.0 onboard. Since I've not written the VESA 2.0 routines myself I got no idea what it is, and I don't have the talent to write my own VESA2 routines either so I stick with these. (Not the Snes EMU.. ;) - This is no bug but you cant load ROMs from different directories with a parameter (i.e. SMC-RIPR ..\ZELDA3.SMC).. You just have to load it from SMC-Ripper or change directory before you launch SMC-Ripper - If you drink and drive you might get arrested by cops. To easy avoid this you can either chew some gum to get rid of the alco smell. But if you already have been caught by the cops you can stuff them with money and they will probably let you go. But the easiest (and safest(?)) way to avoid it at all is to drink OR drive. The VESA-thingie: Hmm.... UniVBE (Scitech Display Doctor) will speed up SMC-Ripper's display-routines by approx. 260% You can get the latest version at http://www.scitechsoft.com If your card have onboard VESA 2.0 support, then SMC-Ripper won't work to good. To get round that problem you can use the parameter /VESA to force SMC-Ripper to use the VESA 1.2 "standard". It is alot slower but it works anyway. VESA 2.0 routines is written by Niklas Huss. VESA 1.2 routines is written by me, Magnus Runesson. Registration: If you'd like th get rid of the ugly register-box (the one that shows when you start SMC-Ripper) you can use the parameter /NOSPLASH Notes: Because SMC-Ripper uses the last 16 colors in the palette you can only define color 0 - 240, and therefore can not get the right palette to pictures/sprites/tiles that uses 8 bitplanes. Parameters: /VESA - Force SMC-Ripper to use the VESA 1.2 standard (Slow but works) /VBE2 - Force SMC-Ripper to use the VESA 2.0 standard (Faster than 1.2) /NOSPLASH - If you get annoyed but my nice welcome-box, try this one Thanks: My thanks will go to these people.. Frank Dwane: The man who sent me info on 3 and 8 Bpl.. Without him there would probably not be a version 1.0 of SMC-Ripper. (Ok it would be a 1.0 version but it would most likely NOT contain 3 and 8 bpl) EFX: Good ideas on how the GUI should be formed. Right this minute I've also made him beta tester #1.. (Now I just have to tell him.. :) Antonio DiPasquale: He is the one who fixed me into Emunews, and for that I'm forever grateful. Serialklr: Once upon a time he was a beta tester. But it was a long time ago.. Niklas Huss: The man who fixed the VESA2 support. (Tobad it requries UniVBE. :) ?????????: For reading through my pityful excuse for english and translate it to understandable english.. =) All Ripper-users ofcourse. But I can't list eveyone who does because this text whould get to big and take hours to download. *Sorry*
