SNESSOR95 v2.1 The SNES SOund Ripper Windows 95 port by Infe Base code by Butcha ______________________________ _____________________ _____ 1 INTRODUCTION ______________ SNESSOR95 is finally up to par with the 2.0 DOS version. This program lets you browse SNES ROMs as if they were CDs or something like that, it's pretty neat. Then you can save all the .wavs at once, at whatever frequency you like, or save your current one, or whatever. You can also choose to save all the sounds together as one file. SNESSOR95 requires the use of a temp.wav file in your current directory until I get around to playing directly from memory. 2 WHAT'S NEW ___________ v2.1 - Simplified GUI. - Implemented a new method of saving all the samples in one file. It no longer saves any of the extra non-sample data. Instead of ending up with a 3.5 MB file and a bunch of fuzz mixed in with the samples, you now end up with a 400 KB file with only the samples, saved at the currently selected frequency. This also cuts down on memory usage...no more needing to allocate 3.5 MB of RAM. - Added ability to loop samples that are playing. - Fixed up sound playing. It now plays directly from memory instead of using a temp.wav, and you can do other stuff while samples are playing instead if it being locked up til the sound is done. Added a stop button on the player. v2.0 - Lets you browse SNES ROMs as if they were cds on your cd player, and save whatever you want as you go along. It's finally up to par with SNESSOR DOS 2.0. I used Win95 API to play sounds so no one would have DirectX problems. Well, okay, I did it that way because it was easier. v1.2b- Now, when you save your ripped data, it is saved into a .wav file, instead of just raw sound data. As noted in the intro above, this means you can look through the "fuzz" to find snes sounds if you like, instead of using a sound editor. I also decided to keep the BlackJack game, and fixed it up. All the bugs that I know of in it are gone. I think I may have a crash bug when you try to rip your second rom, but it may have been something weird during debug, I'm not sure. Minor GUI touchup. v1.1b- Whoops! The first version didn't really work at all! It only happened to work on one rom I tried because the data happened to be aligned just so. This has been fixed. Now it really WILL dump the sounds out of a rom to a file. Heh. A lame buggy BlackJack game was added. I'll probably just discard this :D v1.0b- First Release. 2 COMMAND-LINE STUFF _____________________ I took away most of the useless command-line switches. There is only one command line "switch" now. If you type a rom name after ssor95, ssor95 will load that rom on startup. Example: D:\Snessor>ssor95 alien3.sfc That loads alien3.sfc on startup. 3 INPUT FILES _____________ You can run any file you want through the sound ripper if you think there may be BRR samples in it, however, this program was written to deal mainly with .SMC ROM images. 4 KNOWN BUGS/OTHER ISSUES _________________________ * None at this time...got a few features I want to add still, but no bugs that I know of. 5 COMING SOON _____________ Maybe I will give a shot at porting the newer SNESSOR DOS which can replace sounds in the ROM with sounds of your own. Does anyone want me to? Suggestions for improvement, comments, and bug reports are appreciated. Anything about this Win95 port of SNESSOR should be addressed to me (Infe), not Butcha. -Infe infe@iswt.com http://zophar.internexus.net/personal/infe -Butcha martin@gvi.net http://home.gvi.net/~martin/
