Tile data is both the tile and sprite data of the cartridge. This tool allows the user to modify the data to their liking, it sports an easy to use interface, simple enough for even the most uninitiated in the ways of ROM editting. If you can use a paint program, you can use this. X-Char is also capable of editting some TurboGrafix 16 ROMs. This however, is not officially supported, so don't ask about it, please. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Using X-Char 3 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- To be rewritten in final release... Important notes - X-Char 3 (and 2 as well) SUPPORT Pasofami style editing. To do this, -right- click on the tile (or tiles) on the left window that you wish to paste into the editing array. Then -left- click on the position you want to paste the tile(s) in the right window. It's different than Paso- fami's style, but once you get used to it, it's actually much faster than Pasofami's method. X-Char 3 now supports 16*12 (and 10*12) tiles. While not actually part of the SNES, they are used in many games including the Final Fantasy series, the Dragon Quest series, and several others. To enter this mode, either click on the kana button (looks like this >, and its under the 4 bitplane mode button), or press Z. Pressing a different bitplane button will exit 16*12 mode, or press Z again. While you can resize the tile array, you can only edit one tile at a time! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- New features -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BETA 2 * MUCH MUCH FASTER!!! BETA 1 * FASTER!!! * Added 16*12 (10*12) tile support. * Added a new palette switching feature. All modes now use a progressive gray scale. * Fixed odd file bug that caused it to not save on certain PCs including my own. * Fixed many of the bugs that caused lockups. * Fixed GUI bugs that required the user to hold click or click many times on an icon before it would work. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- To be implemented -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- * Options menu with * Customizable palette. * Export/import RAW format images (GIF later). * Export font file (For use with X-Late 3.0, TBA). * Some optimization. * Linux port (maybe, anybody interested?) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BUGS -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- * There may be some bugs crawling around the 16*12 mode, most likely in the tile array code. Be careful, and let me know if you find any. * There may still be some serious lock up bugs in the code. This is due to prior versions being rushed out the door by the likes of SoM2Freak (see, I told you it would cause problems). If you find any PLEASE tell me what you were doing when it locked up, I want to get these suckers squashed. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Rules of use -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- To use this program, you must follow these fair rules 1. Please don't use X-Char for stupid projects, such as making a character in a game naked. Its okay if you do it, just don't distribute it all over the net. I don't want 40,000 worthless patches floating around. 2. If your project ISN'T stupid, please let other people know about it. 3. If your project ISN'T stupid, I'd like to hear what you're using my program for. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR USE OF X-CHAR. PLEASE DO USE X-CHAR FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- SPECIAL THANKS -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DEMILix - Inspiration Jeremy Chadwick - Tons of help Marat Fayzullin - His useful (albeit confusing and incomplete) NES.DOC DeceiverX, Niki, and VegaC - Programming support SoM2Freak - AUGH!
